• Making a hotline miami short, what do we need?

So me and some friends will try to make something decent out of hotline miamis art direction and visuals, but will take creativity freedom in plot terms. So i was asking myself, what the regular facepunch wants to see in something like this? and what he does not?
depends on if youre going to do an animated short, or a live action short
live action
You need a Chilean Ryan Gosling. Seriously. Have you seen Drive? That's the right direction, just needs to be more sinister and creepy.
The soundtrack. One of the best parts of the game is the music. If you can get permission from some of the artists (there's like half a dozen, I'm sure one could help you out) or something close then it could make the video

There s a little workplace at my grandparents house with lots of deadly tools as well.
Blood bags. Lots of blood bags
Rubber masks. Lots and lots of rubber animal masks. And some blunt weapons, like baseball bats, golf clubs, 2x4s and whatnot.

You should never Show Jackets Face, because if you do, it is not hotline Miami [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] like fucking only see the back of his head [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] If you see if face, it ruins the Character
Yea, that is fine, just never see the bare face of the actor playing him, also have him never speak
yeah will do. My first idea was to combine gta 2 and hotline miami as a tribute, so either way "claude" "jacket" or whatever will never talk
A lot of white suits and [del]victims[/del] friends to play the baddies.
You need to have the:"Do you like to hurt other people?" scene in there or at least something similar. And this track of course.
Have this kindof dark night with neon and urban decay type of setting and some guys with leather gloves and jackets.
People tell me my music sounds a bit like Hotline Miami, if you guys wanna use it you can (but you don't have to)
People tell me my music sounds a bit like Hotline Miami, if you guys wanna use it you can (but you don't have to)
holy shit man, that's like perfect [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] I could listen to this all day
Action sequences should be very fast and graphic. If you've got someone with a baseball bat have them swing it really fucking fast when hitting people and have the impact cringeworthy. It also needs to be very trippy and kind of confusing to a first time vieiwer, have some nice strobe effects and weird effect sequences. Also the masks are supposed to be comical in Hotline Miami, it kind of deters from the fucking horrific violence. If you're going for a really dramatic, twisted ending sequence use this track, very seedy sounding 80's music http://sefiros.co.uk/track/1985 Here's some pretty good hotline miami-club esque music Also if you're budgets not too small, try to fetch an 80's/90's VHS tape recorder. The reason I'm saying this is because it's very hard to replicate the 80's/90's look without it, even with extensive use of effects. There's a lot of artifacts in an old video that would make it seem 80's like such as lens flare like this. [img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12774345/70s%20lensflare.jpg[/img_thumb] Plus Hotline Miami is a game where the story is essentially played on tapes.

Make sure you get a good varsity jacket
Make sure you get a good varsity jacket
stereotypical secondary school sport team jacket right?
wut :v:
I think he meant the music.
send me some of your finest work dude!
If you were on about the music, here's an album: https://soundcloud.com/geogzm/sets/smugglers-of-miami :v: Some tracks sound more 'miami' than others, so it's down to you if any of them match what you're looking for
Make it look like a VHS tape
