(AP) — Pointing the finger at Republicans for congressional inaction, President Barack Obama chided lawmakers Wednesday for spending the waning days before their month-long summer break trying to sue him rather than addressing economic issues that could boost the middle class.
source
"I've only got a couple of years left. Come on, let's get some work done. Then you can be mad at the next president."
But you know that them haters always gonna be hatin' no matter what :v:
He's at least telling it how it really is, and has been one of the few presidents who just want to eliminate party conflict so shit can get done.
He's at least telling it how it really is, and has been one of the few presidents who just want to eliminate party conflict so shit can get done.
But that goes directly against the GOPs goal of getting absolutely no shit done. It makes me wonder if Obama would have been viewed in history as a better or a worse President if Congress were more cooperative.
I agree with Obama on this. I may not like him as a president, but the Republicans have just been ridin' his ass since day one. They keep on saying he's exceeding his congressional power. Maybe so, but for Christ's sake, he's not fucking Chancellor Palpatine.
Aaaand they don't give a fuck. They're just a couple years away from denying Obama any kind of action on any issues whatsoever for a full six years of his presidency. Apparently they think that if things get bad enough and government won't act to fix them, people will vote Republican. And frankly, Americans are so fucking stupid that they're probably right.
The GOP is the political party of hate.
Really though, what can Obama do? The Republican controlled House has no clear intentions of letting up and it's clear that a good portion of Voters believe that the lack of legislation over his 2 terms has because of his Ineptitude and not because of the GOP blockade. As dumb as the GOP strategy is it's clearly working based on how desperate Obama is seeming to get. If only people ever thought about the other 2 branches of government other than the Executive. Optimistically, if Obama keeps throwing out this (completely accurate) accusation it'll get loud enough to the point that people will hear it.
Obama dismissed the suit as a waste of time, noting he'd likely be out of office by the time it's resolved and warning that taxpayers were on the hook for the legal expenses.
Also some dude did an AMA from Washington. He has no political experience and is running for house. I cant find it now, but it would be cool if more people had the courage to do it found it http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2c2yx6/im_jason_ritchie_a_pissed_off_nonpolitician/

I'm flabbergasted at the thought that you think that Americans would even think "DURR LET'S VOTE STUPID REPUBLICANS INTO OFFIZ" After the shit they've been pulling. C'mon dude, Americans are not fucking idiots willing to vote for uncle white old idiot that cares for anything not colored and shit. Republicans have made the Govt. Shut down, they've stamped on the floor, they've made terrible remarks. The only reason anyone would vote for them, is if they're people who actively are against Liberals. And independent parties will NEVER get into the White House. [editline]31st July 2014[/editline] The ONLY way Republicans can even get considered when voting time comes, is to dump out every single moron spouting slandering gibberish, clean themselves up, and find people who can calmly represent Republican views as maturely as possible, and not with a single hint of "FUK YOU DARKIE"

In my area at least, the republican tactic is absolutely working. There are a LOT of people entirely willing to shut their mind to any sort of opposing argument or fact, and just get mad at the mere thought that they might be wrong about something.

Living in Texas here, and it should come to no surprise that people in the south don't like Liberals. Even in the more metropolitan areas.

The party system exists almost solely to allow groups of people to do stupid shit and still get votes essentially on name alone. Most Americans put so little effort into voting that they simply check off "republican" or "democrat" and they are done with it. Americans are too fucking lazy to actually investigate and look at candidates for their personal values and experiences, and the party system exploits this to no end. Don't put that much faith in most Americans. Think of politics as a sport, but a sport with only to teams. Most people side with the team their mom and dad did instead of personally looking for a team they like, because why even make the effort?
Is that picture photoshopped or something? Why does his head seem so huge?
You're sounding just like the GOP now.
"I've only got a couple of years left. Come on, let's get some work done. Then you can be mad at the next president."
When Obama says, "Let's get some work done" he really means "Let's get the work I want done."
Is that picture photoshopped or something? Why does his head seem so huge?
He's asking the real Mitt Romney to stand up.
You're sounding just like the GOP now.
But that's a picture of Obama himself, not his birth certificate.

I'm not saying it's because they're stupid, but dumb shit like people not wanting to change their views for the simple sake that they will be "wrong" and other bullshit like that. Plus the propaganda put out by media outlets like Fox News doesn't help.
To me it doesn't seem like politics is much about getting work done anymore. So much of it is about picking a side and vehemently hating the other side. I really wish we could all be nice to each other and have differing political opinions and be calm and respectful about it, and not immediately assume someone is a dickhead because they're a democrat or a republican, and not use buzzwords like liberal, socialist, right winger, and shit like that like they're bad words to describe dirty people. But politics ain't like that. Politics is a media thing. Politics is football, with everyone picking a side and then vehemently hating the other side. It's barely even about policy anymore when it comes to elections, it's about who's on my side and how good are they at talking shit about the other side.
I think a lot of Americans would agree that the US desperately needs massive political reform. Ideally there should be a constitutional convention tasked with figuring out how to create a political system that won't produce deadlocked governments for half a decade at a time
Ok, how?
There are all sorts of ideas for how to fix the political system but they're never talked about seriously on a national level. Campaign finance reform pretty much has to happen eventually, the electoral college could be abolished or changed, the electoral system for Congress could be changed and there are dozens of systems that it could change to. I'm kind of more interested in the process of agreeing the reforms though. There was a constitutional convention in Ireland recently which combined politicians with randomly selected members of the public. You might think the public is too uninformed and will just shout dumb shit at each other and not get anything done but nope, it totally worked and is bringing about some serious political changes. I think the US could really use something like that, because it seems like both Republican and Democrat voters agree that politics is fucked, they would just need to come to an agreement on how to fix it.
When Obama says, "Let's get some work done" he really means "Let's get the work I want done."
more like "the work i know is best for everyone"
more like "the work i know is best for everyone"
That's almost literally the same thing I said. Obviously he thinks that it's best if he wants it.
but your post clearly implies selfish self-invested things which is the exact opposite of what i'm saying
