COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A train derails near the Ohio State Fairgrounds on the city's north side early Wednesday morning, causing an explosion that was seen from 10 miles away. A southbound train with two locomotives and 98 freight cars of mixed freight derailed between E. 11th and E. 5th avenues at about 2:05 a.m. Eleven train cars derailed, officials said. After the derailment, there was an explosion, and several train cars caught fire. The exact number of train cars that caught fire is not known. Fire officials tell NBC4's Marshall McPeek that there are 20,00 gallons of ethanol burning on board the train. Residents in the area are being asked to evacuate between E. 11th to E. 5th avenues, and N. Grant Avenue to Interstate 71. Two people who were in the vicinity of the train when it derailed were injured. The victims drove themselves to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown. The train crew was able to safely move the locomotives and three freight cars from the scene. There were no injuries to train personnel. As of 7:30 a.m., two train cars remain on fire, and officials said they will allow the alcohol to burn for the next six to eight hours. At that point, emergency crews said they will re-evaluate the situation. Columbus police and firefighters along with HAZMAT personnel remain on scene, and Norfolk Southern is working with emergency personnel on scene. According to police, the evacuated residents were taken to an American Red Cross (ARC) shelter at the Rhodes Building at the fairgrounds. The ARC said they are prepared to assist at least 100 people at the shelter. They are prepared to make the shelter available overnight if needed. The cause is under investigation. COTA: Officials from COTA say they operate 135-140 buses out of the Fields Avenue garage. Due to the incident those buses will not operate until further notice. Employees should report to the McKinley Avenue garage. Riders should plan on limited service, on a modified Sunday schedule. RUMPKE: Rumpke trash and recycling also states that customers in part of Columbus, Hilliard, Dublin, Washington Township, Delaware County, and Union County may experience delays in pick up today due to the derailment.
http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2012/jul/11/24/train-derails-hazmat-called-scene-ar-1099151/ FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I'm in trouble.

I live like ten blocks from this. Heard helicopters all day but didn't see/hear the actual explosion. Columbus is having a hell of a summer, that's for sure.
