Ok, so, lately my computer has been displaying odd things every so often, little lines appearing for spilt seconds once every ten minutes or something like that, but today, after playing Monkey Island it starts to get out of hand, and I decided to stop and go to facepunch to ask what was wrong, but it was at the point where it was almost impossible to tell what was going on, so I snapped a screenshot and turned my poor baby off for a couple of minutes to cool down. This is the resulting screenshot:

Now, is this just a case of my video card overheating? Or is it it's failure altogether? (Things are fine now, but get out of hand when doing moderate to heavy gaming)
Should I just get a cooling pad to keep the temperatures a little under control? Or would it be wise to replace the card (Which is pretty much out of the question, I can barely afford my food and rent at this point. This Notebook was a grad gift, just got it in july)
Specs:
It's a stock MSI GT627 notebook with the following.
Windows Vista Home Premium, 32bit, Service pack 2
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz 2.27GHz
4GB of ram
and a GeForce 9800M GS
If you need any more information, just ask.
Look at the temperatures of your card.
Does this happen after a while when doing nothing or just if you are doing some gaming?

A little bit of both. The temperatures tend to be in the high seventies - low eighties (Celsius) a lot when doing moderate gaming, and it was unnerving at first, but now I've grown used to it, which I probably shouldn't have. It's not too late to prevent is it?

That's not a netbook :downs:
You might have damaged your graphics card, in which case you are fucked. See if you can get a replacement notebook if it doesn't stop

I think I'm covered warranty-wise for three years. Would you suggest I get a cooling pad in the meantime, to help keep it under control?

I don't think it would cool it down enough. I would just take the bullet and turn it in now or shut it off

If I RMA my laptop, would all the information on the hard drive and what not still be there, seeing as it's just a matter of replacing the GPU? or will they just send me a refurbished laptop, while they fix mine to give to someone else?

I wouldn't know for sure but when I RMA'D my laptop and my brothers once they came back with what they had on them.
I think it would be alright as long as the hard drive don't need replacing
And no they will most likely fix whats wrong with it 99% of the time as long as its not totally broken like split in half :v:
My laptop had super glue dumped on it as a prank and they still replaced parts and fixed it instead of giving me a new one
It probably costs them less to replace the parts than give you an entirely new notebook. Before RMA'ing it I'd say send them an email or call them and ask about what they'll do with the hard drive so that it doesn't end up wiped.
Alright cool. Thanks a lot for the help guys. :buddy:

Naaa you have to go bye manufacturers pricing not consumers. Which then most likely he would get a new one.
