Dear Facepunch and fellow musicians
All my life I have composed and made music. I compose all kind of music but lately I have noticed that my head is completely empty. In other words, I have lost my inspiration. Whenever its trance, classical or jazz, Im just completely out of ideas. Its a strange feeling and i dont like it.
When I sit infront of my piano and stare at the empty sheets... Nothing... Not a single idea or melody comes in my head like it used to.
Facepunch. How do I get my inspiration back?

Smoke pot and listen to old music.

You can't force inspiration. Relax and forget about it for a bit, the inspiration should come soon after!
Well, that's how I get inspiration.
Just start playing and see what comes of it? That always works for me to get something to start with.
Masturbate and write a song about it.
Give yourself enough time to find new things to inspire you.

Travel

Why did you add that picture to the bottom of the OP?
This isn't BBC.
Turn all the lights off in your room.
Lay down on your bed.
Play Pink Floyd as loud as you can.
Suddenly... inspired!
Why did someone just rated him dumb? Are you little cunts or what? This guy is artistic and he lives with his music, and while he can't compose he can't be himself, and yet what you do is think that guy is a xxx and deserve to be box wagoned.
Fucking 12 years old.

OP you should try going to another town or even go abroad, visit towns with great architecture, or visit museum exhibitions, or read some history. Something will surely inspire you.
Find a new instrument
Usually I get inspiration after going to a concert.
Whether it's out of admiration or competition is your choice.
I have lately spent alot time in the snowy woods of Finland. I got a cold. Fucking nature...
I have have been studying different instruments like accordeon and mandolin, but still nothing. Im so frustrated with myself.
Maybe I should smoke some pot.
Take a walk. If possible, in nature, forests...
If you feel like so, make it rather quick paced walk.
Also try to get rid of all worries, concerns and such.
Walking supports bloodflow, and at least for me, the bored head wired to a pumping bloodstream often starts spewing a flow of ideas, imaginations, and even melodies, rhythms. Clean forest air also helps, and so does silence.
try autoerotic asphyxiation. The near death experience will be something to write about
Copy other peoples' music.
Here is a list of things you can try:
1. Think step 1 up
2. Think step 2 up.
3. Think step 3 up.
4. Think step 4 up.
5. If you made those things up, you used your IMAGINATION
Go outside, go a walk in a nearby wood or park. Clear air, time and no pressure (such as sitting in front of a piano and trying to force tunes to come into your head) all will contribute to an absent minded melody running through your mind. Imagery of the world is a wonderful way to produce some of the best music.
Beat your head on the floor exactly 3.673 times
If that doesn't work watch a movie
If that doesn't work, take a deep breath and cry on the floor
Your mind is just a bit tired, it'll come back in time. It needs a break.

Just sit around for a bit and relax. Then it should come to you.

is all I can say.
Fellow musician here, giving my ten cent. The thing with inspiration is that you can't force it, the harder you try to force thoughts and ideas the harder it will get to get a good flow of things going on. Plus things such as auditory fatigue (your hearing skill gets less sensitive temporarily from repetitive hearing stimulation) can be quite a bitch while producing/composing music. I also tend to loose my "inspiration" some times and tend to leave my practice aside for a while cause of that. The best thing is to take a bit of time to be aside from your work in music. Take some time to rest, watch some interesting movies (like others have said), read, get your mind to work with the other senses. Once you feel more at ease, hopefully you'll get started creating new stuff. Try experimenting with new genres, listen to new stuff while doing work/shores/etc. Best of luck...
Play it like a flute, baby
:smug:
Stare at a nice painting until you are inspired intellectually.
listen music
