Russian Bombers enter outer-US air defense zone (not air space)
Four Russian bombers entered the U.S. Air Defense Zone near Alaska on Monday, senior defense officials told NBC News on Thursday.
U.S. fighter jets from Alaska responded to shadow the Russian craft, which were Tupolev-95 "Bear" four-engine turboprop bombers, the officials said.
What the fuck?
Oh no! They are out to annex Alaska!

edit: nvm, just got added!
Sarah Palin said she would warn us if this day ever came. She could see Russia from her house and yet she said nothing.
Was it a mistake or is this just testing us?
Fuck off, faggots.
Uh oh.
The officials stressed that at no time did the bombers violate actual U.S. airspace and added that for the U.S. military, these forays are considered rather routine.
There have been about 50 such intercepts of Russian bombers over the past five years.
misleading thread title
THE RUSSIANS!
THE RUSSIANS!
THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING!
Go away, Russia.
This is what it penetrated.

Would be a bit worrying if it really was airspace :v:
edit: title changed
russia has been doing this to other NATO countries forever, it's just testing air defense reaction times
of course the countries being tested intentionally respond late so they dont get good data
it's nothing new
Can't Putin just stay in his Russia?
sensationalist thread title
Fixed that for ya <3
Russia has been doing this since always. It isn't uncommon for them to fly bombers into other people's airspace and then get escorted right back out.
Not sure if the article says it, but apparently they where 50 miles out from the Aleutian islands.
of course the countries being tested intentionally respond late so they dont get good data
could that be the real reason for why we had that intercepting fiasco of ours last week or so?
i mean with our army being what it is "budgetary reasons" is a plausible explanation but still

this is the most confusing connect the dots game i've seen, what's it supposed to be?
It isn't uncommon for them to fly bombers into other people's airspace and then get escorted right back out.
Can anyone explain this a little bit? I don't understand why they would want to do that.

Freud would like a word
This shit happens all the time.
Russians pretty much perpetually run Tu-95 Bears to fuck with airspace. It's a great, low-tech way to keep an eye on everyone's capabilities too.

Is a form of passive agression, showing your military power without resorting to actual violence. And besides, it gives the plane crews involved some actual training.
Am I the only one here who's aware that the Tu-95 isn't a bomber, but a maritime observation aircraft?

It's also the same model used for strategic bombers.
