In Brazil, Trees To Call For Help If Illegally logged.
Illegal loggers beware: trees will soon be calling—literally—for backup. The Brazilian government has begun fixing trees with a wireless device, known as Invisible Tracck, which will allow trees to contact authorities after being felled and moved.
i wonder if that will do any good, probably won't.
I'd just rig them with explosives which detonated if they were chopped down.

this is a much better idea :v:

I'm not sure if the trees would agree with that idea.
Give them assault weapons
Interesting. Also, a thought that crossed my mind; what if the government trained native animals to attack illegal loggers, like a pack of trained attack jaguars that were trained to rip apart logger electronics and savage folks who came to cut down the forest? It'd be crazy, possibly immoral, and expensive, but in the end if the forest itself were defended fiercely by it's wildlife, there would be few who would be willing to illegally log in that jungle of death.
Or alternatively, train a bunch of heavily-armed Jungle Wardens tasked with protecting the Amazon from loggers.

Or you know, just put sustainable logging practices into place instead.

if I was being chopped down I'd like to go out with style
I'd fucking love if they added a feature that added loud horrifying scream in absolute agony when they cut the trees.
But if the companies don't play ball, you gotta enforce the law somehow; say it with taser-clubs and tranquilizer rifles, so that the jungle is too hostile for illegal logging, but legal loggers who step in line with sustainable practices can still harvest within reason if they have a permit.

we technically have those, but loggers don't give a shit, and since the amazon forest is HUGE plus corruption and a overburdened goverment, this is what you get, hell our goverment even put the army to look for illegal loggers, since sometimes they try to kill indians living in some areas to log.

So you're advocating suicide trees ina holy Treehad?
They should follow the plan in the OP but make a scare tactic that the devices explode showering the tree and anyone nearby with white phosphorus or some similar harmful chemical.
Not sure about most of you but I wouldn't want to risk going near such a deadly device.

That's a terrible idea, you'd burn down half the amazon.

I said "scare tactic". Implying there would be signs or such around to warn of such threats. But the threats wouldn't actually exist. I also said "or similar harmful chemical" there is likely a chemical of similar threat but without risk of harming the forest or anything around it which would be better suited.
The point I'm making is they need to put up some sort of scare to deter activity away from such areas (similar to a "Tresspassers will be shot" sign) but without the actual risk being there.
Add neurotoxic gas to them.
Like, you fall and stumble on a tree, and you hear a robotic voice going.

*Psssshhhhhhhhh*

"AAAAH FUCK, PLEASE STOP MAN I HAVE A WIFE AND 3 KIDS"
Then it causes a chain reaction and the entire forest gets blown to high hells. Awesome
More entertaining than the whole forest getting chopped down, that's for sure.
Can't stop thinking about this

you understand that white phosphorous is incredibly fucking lethal, right?

Beautiful
good job talking about this, news, now illegal loggers will search for and deactivate these devices.

It will be very hard for loggers to search every single tree in the forest for what is likely a very small and cheap radio transponder in its branches.

article says this is smaller than a deck of cards.

The end result would be a bunch of really really dead jaguars.
New age illegal loggers will have to go around with disposable spoofing equipment.
But then loggers will just keep chloroform with them.
This actually sounds like a decent idea though. At least it's a new idea.
I'd just rig them with explosives which detonated if they were chopped down.
I've heard about situations where activists would embed metal spikes in trees so that when people go to cut them down their tools would break.
It's extremely dangerous for the logger, powertool cutting edges flying apart can be like a shrapnel explosive. One guy was nearly decapitated once.
