Probably caused a mass-panic.
My Facebook feed is filled with everyone freaking out and shit about a "withdrawal" its pretty depressing.
Wait, what? People use blackberries in other countries and not only USA?
Blackberries everywhere except Sweden?
So was it just BBM and not data services overall? I'm not sure what the big deal is.
I was affected by this, my friend with an iPhone laughed at me :(
People still use Blackberries?
Interesting.

the problem comes because all your emails, internet services and data go through the blackberry network. bbm just happens to as well. so it was data services overall.
i noticed earlier, hadn't realised it had gone down though. i saw it had disconnected from the blackberry internet service and my emails weren't being pushed through.
that being said, the people for whom it's really crucial have blackberry enterprise servers at their businesses anyway.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone with a Blackberry.

oh. wasn't familiar with the platform. I guess that's a design oversight on RIM's part :v:

it's actually one of blackberry's strongest points - the data runs through RIM but on the way there it's heavily encrypted!
which means you can happily use public wi-fi without worrying about your traffic being compromised.
it's also one of the reasons they're popular with big companies - they can guarantee security and heavily lock down the handsets because all traffic runs through them.
it's kinda neat.

well they should have had a backup in the off-chance the servers go down. like this.
Probably caused a mass-panic.
It caused mass anger.

Yes because the blackberry is totally a device from the United States.

almost certainly yes. but phone calls and texts still worked and those are the only things that are really that important.

Just when I needed to check my emails, too.
I personally don't like BBM just because of the majority of my age group use it, and it's not even that - it's the fact they mostly all have the GPRS model
I don't get the hype over BBM, it's a glorified IM.
Having fun using memegenerator to laugh at the idiots on my Facebook who jumped on the BlackBerry bandwagon just like everyone else in my age group, then cry when BBM is down. By posting images like:

Wow you're a veritable comedic genius and I would be highly surprised if anyone who saw you post that on facebook disagreed with me and somehow mistook you for a massive bellend.

it's actually pretty good - it may be only be IM but it's very well executed.
that said, i barely use it and it's in no way the best feature of the blackberry in my opinion.

I like it. Most of my friends have got a Blackberry, so if I need to text them, I can just send them a message on BBM. Doesn't cost a thing.
A lot of Blackberries used by silly teenage girls, so no loss here.
Blackberries used to be for office guys and such.
Then the adolecents found out about them.
Their new mobile hype is now ugly mobiles that don't follow trends
it's funny to see my facebook newsfeed full of 'OMG FUCK BLACKBERRYS PIECE OF SHITS'.
OOOOOOOOOH
that's why everyone on Facebook is selling Blackberrys
anyonne want too swap a blackberry for a iphone :)))
