Xbox One to perform online checks every 24 hours, and EVERY HOUR if playing on a separate console
On an explanatory page posted on Xbox Wire, the system's heretofore confusing online requirements were cleared up. Each game you own is digitally installed to your account using cloud services. Every 24 hours, an online check is required to ensure that you still own the copy of the game you're playing. You can also access your account and its associated games on a friend's console, but online checks are performed every hour when attempting to play remotely in this manner. The policy lines up with what Polygon heard from our sources shortly after the console's reveal.
"Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies," the Xbox Wire post explains.
So they spent months developing these security features, which actually bother the user more than actually benefiting them, and I give it a week to a month max before they're cracked.
gg Microsoft
not late news, this is confirmation of a rumor.
and fuck. it sucks. ive been avoiding the xbox hate train, and i dont "hate" it still, but this is just sad, and unfortunate.

Sounds like a self paraody
Basically Microsoft just put out a big info dump about the Xbox One:

They've also confirmed that used games/rentals/sharing is up to publishers:
Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.
This is not even a confirmation of a rumour, they said it themselves at around the announcement. It's really the only part of the Xbox One that is really, actually bad.
Well that's retarded.

Cheers Microsoft I was worried you weren't going to fuck up in an hilarious manner for a minute there but boy you didn't disappoint.

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.
Maybe it's too late for them, but I'm surprised they didn't change their minds after the backlash the rumours gave them. Bit ridiculous really, but most people I know who are huge Xbox players are all saying they're all probably gonna switch to PS4. Deserves Microsoft right.
The sad thing is,that no matter what shit microsoft do all the fanboys will be their first thing in the morning the release day...

I have many friends who play without an online connection. Nobody is going to want this.
For an optimal experience, we recommend a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps. (For reference, the average global internet connection speed as measured recently by Akamai was 2.9 Mbps). In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband.
What DRM fees? And I have privacy concerns, but lot's of devices do some kind of monitoring. The SGSIII/4 for example with "smartstay" or whatever.. Sure, you can turn it off, but most people don't.
ZachPL, where are you come defend your precious Xbox One
Woo, go Cloud->Butt script!
Surprise surprise.
Not.
not as bad as I thought, still pretty bad.
I want to get off Mr. Xbone's wild ride
No matter how bad it gets, it's still gonna break records in sales and profit, and it may end up outselling the PS4 anyways just on policy of it have 'Xbox' in it's title.

fuck me i hope you don't live in a rural area and plan to buy an xbox cos you're fucked now
So what happens when the next xbox after the one comes out? What happens when the servers are down?
Launch week is going to be a fucking nightmare. It's going to be simcity 2013 all over again except instead of a digital game it's going to be a 400+ dollar paperweight.
