Well at least the article suggests parents to be vigilant about where their children browse but it's still the Internet. There is not a single corner of the thing that's going to be clean.
They hear it from their peers, too, so what?
"i am 12 and what is this" there's a reason most sites have age restrictions
"i am 12 and what is this" there's a reason most sites have age restrictions
Age restrictions that are about as effective as wet bog roll is at stopping a freight train. Bet ya if you went by the records acquired by those age checks the human race loves to give birth on January 1st by a landslide...
They hear it from their peers, too, so what?
Depends. I was playing UT99 from like age 6/CS:S at 9, and I'm confident in saying the majority of rude asshats I saw in that time period were while I was playing shit online. Now imagine instead of a kid playing FPSes with a CRT monitor you've got kids with iPhones looking at Twitter and YouTube comments. I can't remember how many websites I was making accounts on when I was a kid. Facepunch still has my birthday listed as Jan 1 1970 because I can't change it to March 1998. [sp]Though in hindsight I really shouldn't have been here until multiple years after, I was fucking cringy even for 2007's standards and iirc I was temp banned within a week[/sp]
I think ages 12 to 15 is a pretty decent time to be allowed on the internet relatively unsupervised, which is who the article talks about. I don't really remember hearing the same sort of hate speech from peers before then, that's literally about when you get to middle school which is where we did become a bunch of assholes.
