Are you still hitting refresh? Internet users in China were met with sluggish response times early Sunday as the country's domain extension came under a "denial of service" attack. The attack was the largest of its kind ever in China, according to the China Internet Network Information Center, a state agency that manages the .cn country domain. The double-barreled attacks took place at around 2 a.m. Sunday, and then again at 4 a.m. The second attack was "long-lasting and large-scale," according to state media, which said that service was slowly being restored. Official state media said the attack targeted websites with the .cn country domain, as well as the popular microblogging site Sina Weibo.
Damn, that's crazy.
Must have been hard not having access to the eight state approved sites.
Let me guess who did the attack? [sp]United States[/sp]
Let me guess who did the attack? [sp]United States[/sp]
As fun as it sounds to jump the gun on this, the U.S. isn't the only government behind a computer.

just wait until north korea does this with .com
just wait until north korea does this with .com
Leaked picture of NK's specialist team infiltrating the .com domain extension
Are we going to do this in every hacker related thread?
Let me guess who did the attack? [sp]United States[/sp]
why would the US ddos china
You know, those massive fucking facilities that the NSA has could easily bring down entire domains. I mean, I'm more than positive that the NSA has more facilities than one would fathom. Or, at least more than they'd ever let the public think. And, ontop of that, I think it's really funny that the NSA can do pretty much whatever they want, yet, the US/UN said that any "cyber-crime" is grounds for war. Does anybody else think that something major might come out of this, if it continues? What if it was directly another country that attacked them, do you think they will retaliate?
I agree with you, but from Snowden leaked, we did bug a bunch of places and did hack into Iran's nuclear facilities.
Granted the attack on Iran's centrifuges was different, especially since it targeted equipment Iran technically shouldn't have had in the first place. Unless something else is going on here, what interest would the U.S have in a dos attack?
Let me guess who did the attack? [sp]United States[/sp]
On the flip side, when stuff like this happens to other countries it's usually China's doing.
Let me guess who did the attack? [sp]United States[/sp]
The US hacking an Iranian computer is a lot different from trying to bring down an entire network of high-tech machines.
seriously if the US wanted to attack china like this they wouldn't do something as simplistic and traceable as a DDOS
china probably banned us for hacking and us retaliated with a ddos [sp]pure gmod style[/sp]
why would the US ddos china
Why would they not? It's pretty obvious now that the US does a lot of things that are not in the public interest.
Damn. Look at those pro mlg mofos, using 120hz CRT's.
How much of a long-term impact do DDOS attacks have?
Wow the NSA really screwed up this time.
are we seriously going to be under the impression that the United States cyberattacked china? get your heads out of your asses lol
How much of a long-term impact do DDOS attacks have?
Pretty much none, normal service resumes when the attack stops, it's the waste of time that it causes that's the problem.
Why would they not? It's pretty obvious now that the US does a lot of things that are not in the public interest.
But what's the motive You can't just jump on the "US did it" train without having any evidence to suggest the US would gain something from DDoSing China
I wonder who did it. I doubt its the US but who really knows.
sluggish Internet would probably leave many Chinese without sleep.
Might be the opposite in many cases, with gold farmers finally getting some sleep.
There's no real reason for this to have been the work of the US government. If it were the case that Chinese government or infrastructure computers had been compromised, then I'd say it's a possibility. But it's just too directionless and there's really nothing to be gained from it in the long run. At best you could say that it's a behind the scenes intimidation game but I can't help but feel that bringing down a DNS server isn't really all that intimidating to a government. The computers serving those .cn sites weren't touched, just the machines that give your computer the IP address of them so that you can go to them. All this affected was users.
oh geez i tried to access the chinese museum of natural history for shits and giggles and it wasn't working and now I KNOW WHY
As fun as it sounds to jump the gun on this, the U.S. isn't the only government behind a computer.
How many of those countries are actually capable of launching such a large ddos attack though? I doubt it was Russia due to their strong ties with China and I find it unlikely that any of the European nations would bother due to the large list of problems the majority are already facing. That doesn't leave many countries other than the US.

At its height the Storm botnet was made up of over a million computers and to this day nobody knows who managed it.
a fine show of might indeed
goddamnit sethhack China should get cloudflare
Maybe China was testing new protocols or whatever on their own stuff.
