THQ announced today it has signed a deal to publish the next project from Turtle Rock Studios, who originally created Left 4 Dead. The game is described as an "original, groundbreaking multiplayer experience," and is set for release in 2013. Platforms were not announced.
"Our quest to sign the best artists and work with the best talent continues" said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Turtle Rock Studios is responsible for one of the most original, critically acclaimed co-operative games of this generation, and we are incredibly excited to be working with them on their next project, which looks set to make a similar impact in the multiplayer space."
The new game from Turtle Rock Studios will not be shown at E3 next month, but you can expect a full reveal at a later date. Valve acquired the developer in January 2008 before the release of Left 4 Dead. Members of that development team later left to reform Turtle Rock Studios.
"We're thrilled to be working with THQ," said Phil Robb, COO, Turtle Rock Studios. "This project is the most ambitious thing we've ever attempted, and we're inspired by the support THQ has shown to help us realize that vision. We're going to take the first person shooter experience to a whole new level, and we can't wait to show the game for the first time in the months ahead."
This will end badly
If I've learned anything its that, L4D3.
nevermind
I bet it's that western coop game they were working on!
This will end badly
Why? They seem like they know what they're doing and I like THQ better than most big publishers.
L4D was awesome, so it doesn't matter.
maybe it's their version of Left 4 Dead? not Valves?
This will end badly
When working with valve - Turtle Rock is awesome!
When working with anyone else - Its gonna suck.
Right 2 Die
Wait didn't valve buy up turtle rock?
Hopefully this turns out well for them, L4D was a brilliant game, almost a shame it turned out how it did.
I thought Turtle Rock turned into part of Valve.
Uh guys, in the OP, its not that much text!

Chances are they only bought out their staff.

Left 4 Pro Skater 5
Honestly if I were them I would have just stayed with Valve. While having your own little tight-nit company is ok, its not as good as being a part of a much larger company with tons of money at its disposal.
Warhammer 4 Dead 2.
I'd buy it.
I bought MX vs ATV: Reflex recently which was published by THQ
Best racing game I've played in years
From what I understand Turtle Rock likes to mess around with AI, maybe they are working on a strategy game?
metro 2033 co op game
i hope its a 4 player co-op zombie escape/survial type game
The game is described as an "original, groundbreaking multiplayer experience"...
wow i swear that every single publisher hasn't said that about every fucking game they publish

I dunno, if you look at what Turtle Rock intended L4D to be (it was even more gritty looking than retail) I probably wouldn't have been enthused by what Valve wanted from it, I am guessing they just had different visions. Along with the big company comes a loss of control I guess, not saying that either vision was bad, but there is a fairly stark different between L4D1 beta and L4D2, and not just polish.

THQ + L4D Crew = Nurgle invasion of Imperial Hive Planet, random group Imperial Guards/PDF (lol)/SPEHSS MAHREENS will have to fight through the horrors of Nurgle.
Or DLC for Space Marine.
metro 2033 co op game
BRILLIANT! I would totally buy it.
I bet it's that western coop game they were working on!
That will be an awesome game.
THQ is pretty cool, out of all the other choices they could have gone with, it is one of the best. Worst case scenario they work for Activision.
Alright, I was really thinking "Why would ANYONE leave Valve" and then I remembered that Valve got rid of their office located in California and forced everyone to Bellevue. I would assume that there wasn't enough space for some people and they probably got laid off.
