Valve's new GSLT ban wave, ban everyone on the same IP

So Valve has made another GSLT ban wave. And it appears, based on reports people have made on Reddit and the csgo-server mailing list, that if you share your IP/computer with someone who gets GSLT banned that you will get banned too. They've also added an 8 day CSGO ban ("temporary cooldown") as well from being able to join servers.

I know they're probably targeting those that create multiple accounts to keep the servers running. But this is ridiculous that others not involved get banned. Think about NATs, especially as IPv4 address space disappears. If you share internet (like at college, etc) you could get banned just because someone you share internet with was running a server with a plugin Valve deemed illegal.
What The Fuck is going on with Valve/Steam These Day's ,.?!
I can see why valve thought of doing this, though I don't really think they thought it through. This really does seem like it'll only punish innocent people. If you're really intent on violating rules by giving people knives on your server (like the FUCKING MONSTER YOU ARE BTW) it just seems like you'd unplug your router and get a new IP. It'd only really hurt people at like universities, maybe places like hotels, and other shit like that.
But hey, anything to protect the sweet sweet knife / gun income
I'm mostly supportive of the VAC ban system but IP based bans are a fucking joke lol
tons of people are going to get hit because they used an open router, possibly
This will be fucking great for dynamic IPs.
I can't wait for my Dynamic IP to be the same as someone who is banned so I can get banned and spend months trying to appeal it.
so now innocent people at colleges and other such large housing facilities will be banned, just so valve can keep pumping out cosmetics. nice.
permanent vac bans don't really stop people from making new accounts and neither will this
they need a more clever system, not a more aggressive one.
All good things come to an end eventually.

Alternatively you could use this to ban somebody you don't like if you know their IP address
Wait are you allowed to set your own IP with dynamic? I forget how the shit works
What the hell is going on with the CS:GO team? How could they be this stupid? Are server plugins really that big of an issue that they're willing to mass-ban IP addresses and risk shutting entire dorms out of their game, or random users who are unlucky enough to be assigned a dynamic IP that was banned long ago? Someone at Valve seriously needs to step in and let the CS:GO team know that they are complete morons. Not only are they regularly messing with the core gameplay and demolishing balance to the point of unplayability (I haven't played CS:GO since the R8 because of this), but now they're mass-banning IP addresses for using a cosmetics plugin in community servers? What the hell?

No, dynamic IP is assigned by your ISP.

They can't risk losing any of that sweet sweet skin money.
I'll be honest, the more Valve fucks up, the more I am starting to dislike them and steam.
Origin is way better, the support is faster and they don't do shit like this.
As someone who played an MMORPG that thought IP bans were the answer to their bot problem, I know this is gonna do more harm than good.

Personally, it's too bad origin only really has mostly EA games, which I hate, so there's no point in using it
Lan parties are going to be fun. And by fun i mean people will intentionally use burner accounts just to get everyone there banned.
Okay so I own CS:GO but very rarely play it (3.6 hours + it's currently uninstalled). If someone in my boarding house gets banned, will I get banned too - as in vac banned?

That'll be fun with the eSports scene. Sign up for some big tournament, somehow use a burner account without people realizing it, everyone walks away with a banned account.

This is GSLT bans, not VAC bans.
It just means you can't create public CS:GO servers. Which sucks, but it isn't a VAC ban.

Oh okay, thanks!
This is dumb
Oh okay, thanks!
I mean if you are GSLT banned, you get an 8 day "cooldown" ban, meaning you can't play on CS:GO server as well, but only for those 8 days.
Unless you're hosting servers and doing naughty things, you basically don't need to worry about this.
You've been making games for almost 20 years and they've been mostly huge successes. One of the biggest game companies in the world. And yet, you don't have the technical knowledge or don't care enough to jump on the long ol' train of devs that understand that IP banning is fucking stupid

As long as your IP isn't Dynamic, or you log in to your steam account on an IP that's been banned, or someone who is banned uses your IP, then yeah, you are pretty much fine.
whatever group of people at valve are in charge of making decisions like this, is just very worrying. i assume it's probably the younger employees who lack experience (and emotional control)
As long as processes are in place to make sure innocent people don't get caught out by this I'm fine with it.
However if it fucks over loyal customers then we just have another thing to add to steam fuck-up list.

Why are you capitalizing almost every word.
Hang on, Most internet providers that host static IP will subnet that IP because its cheaper meaning.. what?
