It will be auctioned in February in the south-western city of Abadan. Officials hope it will fetch more than the $2,000 (1,500 euros; £1,300) such cars sell for in Iran. The head of Abadan's free trade zone, Asghar Parhizkar, told the Irna news agency the auction would take place during a classic car exhibition there. The money raised would be allocated to the Mehr Housing Fund, he said. The sale comes at a time when Mr Ahmadinejad's government has cut food and energy subsidies, raising the cost of living substantially. It had been paying about $100bn in subsidies annually, but Iran's oil-dependent economy has been hit by four rounds of UN sanctions relating to the country's controversial nuclear programme.
That's a nice thing to do.
Sure it's nice, but it's still not much. Then again i don't know many other politicians that would do such a thing
oh boy they'll really be able to fix up iran with this one
$2000 woooAHH how generous!
$2000 woooAHH how generous!
I'm fairly sure that is a lot of money over there.
I'm fairly sure that is a lot of money over there.
not that much really, especially when its coming from Ahmadinejad. we're talking about the state that gives its police force MercedesBenz can't spare a less shitty car for his beloved people?
hooray although if literally any conservative or Israeli hardliner politician did something like this he'd be e-castrated for making such a thinly veiled political move
not that much really, especially when its coming from Ahmadinejad.
It's an auction, it's expected and hoped to go higher. Ahmadinejad decides to auction his old car and you begin to demonize him for it.
although if literally any conservative or Israeli hardliner politician did something like this he'd be e-castrated for making such a thinly veiled political move
just like Ahmadinejad
it's pretty obvious he's doing this to make people think he's a nice guy because of all the negative attention he gets
It's an auction, it's expected and hoped to go higher. Ahmadinejad decides to auction his old car and you begin to demonize him for it.
and you're trying to glorify some middle-eastern dictator because he decided to give away one of his old shitty cars that he probably wasn't using anymore. Politicians make donations all the time, and its not because they're charitable.
I'd buy it for 2000 dollars just to plaster his face over it and whack it with shoes while setting it on fire ONLY because the car money would be going to charity. Actually I take that back, that charity blows. I'd rather take my money to the Mexican poor house which feeds and clothes the poorest of the poor down in Tijuana Mexico I volunteer at every Christmas. THIS ONE HERE (they need money donate to my shameless pandering)
and you're trying to glorify some middle-eastern dictator because he decided to give away one of his old shitty cars that probably wasn't using anymore. Politicians make donations all the time.
I'm glorifying his actions, you're making it sound as if its condemnable for him to donate to charity.
I'm glorifying his actions, you're making it sound as if its condemnable for him to donate to charity.
He's not donating it because hes charitable. Either way 2k is diddly-dick. It's not even liquid money, he just decided he wanted to get rid one of his POS cars and improve his self-image, whatevers left of it at least.
Ahmadinejad donates car to charity. Facepunch: "What, only a fucking car? Fuck that piece of selfish cunt!" Grow up.
Ahmadinejad donates car to charity. Facepunch: "What, only a fucking car? Fuck that piece of selfish cunt!" Grow up.
way to completely over-simplify things.
[img_thumb]http://www.theparisreview.org/images/kowsari3.jpg[/img_thumb]
Iranian police are hardcore.

Why don't you bitch at other world leaders for not donating at all? Oh wait, it's because it's Iran [editline]1st January 2011[/editline]
way to completely over-simplify things.
That's exactly what's happening, [editline]1st January 2011[/editline]
Politicians make donations all the time
Correction: People make donations to politicians all the time.
He doesn't have to donate shit, stop complaining about how much cash he's donating. Why don't you bitch at other world leaders for not donating at all? Oh wait, it's because it's Iran
Politicians not donating is not news worthy, neither is this article as its a pretty paltry sum even by Iran's standards. The moneys not even coming out of his pocket, hes giving away a 33 year old piece of shit car of his. And yet you feel that writing an article about it is supposed to put him in a more positive light... please..
Politicians not donating is not news worthy
My point was if you're going to bitch about a politician donating +$2,000 you should begin at ones who don't at all.
The moneys not even coming out of his pocket, hes giving away a 33 year old piece of shit car of his.
If you sell your very own car and get cash from it, then donate that cash, it's considered 'coming out of your pocket'.
It's of course a token effort. If Ahmadinejad actually gave a crap about his fellow country men, you would've seen a more peaceful protest after the last election, and would actually see that the UN / US lift it's sanctions through compliance. Clearly this isn't happening.
i wonder how many stones $2000 will pay for to be thrown at women who show face in iran (crime punishable by stoning until death by stoning)

[editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Whereas this will impact his political stance positively, it is still a nice thing to do and you shouldn't complain, I don't see you guys complaining about the people who don't do this.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Hey, Israel's an officially Jewish nation - either accept that, or leave? But yeah, this seems a political stunt to me, and I'd probably think this of any other politician who did this.
Christ man, are you seriously saying that you should let a law be because it's the law? Christ man, do you know how to read? How about providing a response instead of rating me dumb because you are too stupid to understand fact, because you're clouded with morals?
In a country ran by a religion, the law is not easily changed, so like I said, those are the only logical options. Christ man, do you know how to read?
There is nothing about that in your previous post. YOU CAN NOT SAY I CAN NOT READ IF YOU DON'T PUT SOMETHING ON THE FUCKING PAGE. Just because change isn't easy does NOT mean it's not worth fighting for. I mean, look at civil rights in the united states for any minority group, hard but worth it. There is a substantial anti-government culture in Iran that pops up and makes headlines on occasion that the Iranian government has to scurry around to shut up. It's not like change isn't happening. Also it's "run" not ran. I'll apparently learn to read when you learn to think or type.

More like logic, how is killing a woman with stones logical? It's funny because countries run by religion are normally the ones clouded by morals...... idiot [editline]1st January 2011[/editline]
Ahmadinejad is awesome because hes like im fucking selling my car fuck the cunts at the UN free iran.
yeah fuck the UN lets stone some more broads (maybe hang them if people start bitching at us)

The regime is Islamic, therefore Muslims will follow the laws provided by the government (at least the majority). You do realize that the Iranian Anti-Government group is considered a terrorist group by this USA you speak of, doing all the right things, and fighting for civil rights and such, right? This was around November, that the US declared designated this 'iranian anti-government' group a terrorist group.
Reporting from Washington — The State Department on Wednesday formally designated an Iranian anti-government group as a foreign terrorist organization, which some analysts took as a gesture of U.S. goodwill toward Tehran.
So even your 'mighty' USA is favoring the current government, and as such, your argument is a pile of shit. It's not like it'll change you fucking twat. You are the epitome of a die-hard atheist child that doesn't understand how things are run, in Iran or otherwise.
