how would i go about pitch shifting/time stretching vocals a la XXYYXX?

i'm working on a track that would really benefit from some smooth vocals like the ones xxyyxx uses, except when i try to do it, it sounds absolutely terrible.
how did i get my shit to sound as sweet as this?

I think they push the dry wet on the reverb all the way to wet so the peaking frequencies of the vocals don't dig into your ears, and they pitch the vocals down, it sounds pretty simple to me.
just pitching the tune down will make it sound horrible, but theres a time-stretching thing in sound forge pro i use which lets you pitch a tune down while keeping it in the same key and at the same speed, which does exactly the same thing as what xxyyxx does
you can hear an example of it around ~27 minutes in here

i see
but like, what if i wanted to 'play' the vocals on my midi keyboard? like construct a melody with the pitched down vocals? is that possible?

find out what key the vocals are in, load it into a sampler at the appropriate key and then play it like that. it's really easy to program a sample into a key in reason, don't know what program you use though so i cant comment
i use ableton
and i dont know what 'load it into a sampler at the appropriate key' means
i also dont know how to find the key of a song
i am not good at music

He's basically saying you should transpose the key of the audio before you load it into a sampler, but I don't fully understand why, but he claims that you have to use sound forge to correctly time stretch? And you can, but you can do it in ableton to, you should set the audio clip as "complex" or "complex pro" and it'll timestretch/etc. without affecting the pitch and whatnot

this is the default non-drum sampler in reason, NNXT

when you load a sample into it, it automatically assigns itself to the key of C, third octave (C3)
you can then play about with it, but i dont really quite know how it works since ive never tried to reassign a vocal's key
so this is what i did with the club airhorn

Red, you can do all that by right clicking on the audio clip in performance mode and clicking "slice to midi" which will then allow you to launch certain parts of the vox as an independent note (NOTE: You should transpose the audio before slicing it to midi)
ur like my translator
I think I get what you're wanting to do here, red, you're wanting to repitch each slice of the chopped up parts of the vocal track, then have them play into a melody? Like in those old Skrillex songs? (I know it's a shitty example but it's the only one I can think of)

Well sorry man he said he's using ableton and you gave him advice for sound forge and Reason lol
I think? I wanna be able to play the same slice at different notes, whilst pitched down and timestretched
im probably doing a bad job of explaining what it is I want to do because I'm not entirely familiar with the vernacular

Don't worry, I get what you're saying, and what you want to do is gonna require some ass busting, AKA a fuck ton of time, for each note change in the slice, you're going to have to drag the slice into a channel in performance mode (or song mode, performance is quicker though) and transpose it, dragging it into a new slice in the midi sliced channel.
i figured it out
i'm working on something really really nice, thanks for all your help!
