I imagine it's gonna be an awkward christmas for that guy. It was pretty big of him to do though.
Awkward how?
I dont think a child dying before your eyes is something you can shake out of your head in less than two weeks.
“When I walked in, he was laying there so weak, it looked like he was ready to fall asleep,” Schmitt-Matzen told the news outlet. “I sat down on his bed and asked, ‘Say, what’s this I hear about you’re going to miss Christmas? There’s no way you can miss Christmas! You’re my No. 1 elf!’” “He looked up and said, ‘I am?’ I said ‘Sure.’” Schmitt-Matzen told USA Today that he watched him open the present and smile before he lay back down. “’They say I’m going to die,’ he told me. ‘How can I tell when I get to where I’m going?’ I said, ‘Can you do me a big favor?’ He said ‘Sure!’ 'When you get there, you tell them you’re Santa’s No. 1 elf and I know they’ll let you in.’ He said, ‘They will?’ I said, ‘Sure.’” “He kind of sat up, and gave me a big hug and asked one more question: ‘Santa can you help me?’ I wrapped my arms around him. Before I could say anything, he died right there. I let him stay, just kept hugging and holding on to him,” Schmitt-Matzen told USA Today.
I'm actually crying. Holy shit. Bless this man.
I dont think a child dying before your eyes is something you can shake out of your head in less than two weeks.
No but I doubt it would ruin the holiday for him, maybe just make him sad, obviously.

It made me realize the role I have to play. For them and for me,”

I thought a child awkwardly died at the mall while Santa was holding him. This is actually heartwarming.
Heartwarming and heartbreaking. Massive respect to Eric Schmitt-Matzen for continuing to don the outfit.

Santa Story
I'm actually crying. Holy shit. Bless this man.
This would've ended Christmas for me right there, holy shit.
I'm actually crying. Holy shit. Bless this man.
No joke, so am I
We need more people like Schmitt-Matzen in this world.
Damn, That was a sad story. That guy will have a hard time getting over that. Having someone die in your arms sucks, I personally know that feeling too well.
damn what a good person
No but I doubt it would ruin the holiday for him, maybe just make him sad, obviously.
iirc you tend to have a problem having common sympathies with people in general, so i'll just break this down for you: there's probably no worse feeling in this entire world than holding a small child as they die in your arms, quite literally. mr. santa is just an old guy who spends his time volunteering as a pretend character in order to make children happy -- he's not a hardened man of steel. he just wants to do whats right.
Im tried to hold back my tears. This is very heart-breaking.
Stuff like this that makes you feel sad but warm are rare to hear in the news. I let a tear out, this is really emotional.
Is it strange that I obviously feel sorry for the child and the guy and sympathise with both them and the parents, but I don't really feel upset? Then again, I do have trouble crying.

I'm not a robot dude. And had you actually read this article, you'd see that he actually does this volunteer work with sick kids all the time and when he saw other kids laughing after he left the room, he was happy to see happy kids. No shit what he went through sucks, doesn't mean he's miserable now.
This upsets me, i find this deeply troubling to my core

That would kind of fuck me up if I was Santa.
“I spent four years in the Army with the 75th Rangers, and I’ve seen my share of [stuff],” Eric Schmitt-Matzen told USA Today. “But I ran by the nurses’ station bawling my head off. I know nurses and doctors see things like that every day, but I don’t know how they can take it.”
[editline]w[/editline] Here's some more, again from the very article you've just posted.
The boy’s death left Schmitt-Matzen questioning whether he could continue donning the signature white beard and red suit, but he returned for other sick children and saw the effect it had on them.

“My wife and I were scheduled to visit our grandchildren in Nashville the next day, but I told her to go by herself. I was a basket case for three days. It took me a week or two to stop thinking about it all the time. Actually, I thought I might crack up and never be able to play the part again.”
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/12/11/cried-all-way-home-santa-claus-grants-final-wish-dying-child/95315536/ This one's better, has a nice Santa slideshow too.
I'm actually crying. Holy shit. Bless this man.
Breaks my fucking heart, jesus. What an awful world we live in
Well then this tugged on my heartstrings more than all the other deaths this year
Breaks my fucking heart, jesus. What an awful world we live in
What a wonderful world, kids die every day but this kid had a good death through the kindness of people.
first the main topic of the article, and then this:

The boy’s death left Schmitt-Matzen questioning whether he could continue donning the signature white beard and red suit, but he returned for other sick children and saw the effect it had on them. “When I saw all those children laughing, it brought me back into the fold. It's both sad and beautiful. If anything it makes me want to volunteer more just to help people through stuff like this. Bless this man for the wonderful things he does for these children. And bless that poor child who at least got to see Santa before he left this world.

Man, what a cool guy.
