• Battle.net compromised, Blizzard investigating
Battle.net, Blizzard's online service that stores data, financial, and other personal user information for games like Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft, has been compromised, according to Mike Morhaime, Blizzard's president."This week, our security team found an unauthorized and illegal access into our internal network here at Blizzard," Morhaime wrote on the company's website. "We quickly took steps to close off this access and began working with law enforcement and security experts to investigate what happened." Morhaime explains that Blizzard has found "no evidence" that personal information such as credit card information, billing addresses, or users' real names were accessed. However, a list of Battle.net email addresses for users outside of China, the answer to a security question, and information regarding mobile and dial-in access were accessed. Cryptographically scrambled versions of Battle.net passwords for players on North American servers were accessed. Although the passwords were encrypted, Morhaime recommends that players on these servers change their Battle.net passwords as well the same password used on any other service. In the next few days, Blizzard will prompt North American users to change their security questions and answers, and mobile authenticator users will be prompted to update their software.
I use an authenticator, no worries here.
Unless of course they compromised the algorithm for the tool
Unless of course they compromised the algorithm for the tool
There's zero evidence that they did that.
Unless of course they compromised the algorithm for the tool
You can already emulate the algorithm. There's tools online to do that with. It's if they get hold of your serial number of the authenticator that you run into trouble. If they got hold of the keys, a password change would be a good idea.
I use an authenticator, no worries here.
How can you stand the giant annoyance of the authenticator? I refuse to use one because no other password needs an authentication to not get stolen.
How can you stand the giant annoyance of the authenticator? I refuse to use one because no other password needs an authentication to not get stolen.
You don't need one to not get it stolen, it's an extra layer of protection.
How can you stand the giant annoyance of the authenticator? I refuse to use one because no other password needs an authentication to not get stolen.
2-factor authentication is literally the best thing ever for internet security
EA is a sinking ship
What the fuck?
EA is a sinking ship
Okay. What does that have to do with the subject at hand?
EA is a sinking ship
What.
EA is a sinking ship
Battle net is owned by Blizzard, which is subsequently owned by ActiVision.
The authenticator is a bit annoying, but I'm glad I'm safe for when shit happens like this.
EA is a sinking ship
Cool thanks for the input!
Yea, if you got a mobile authenticator it might be best to get yourself a new serial for it
With regard to Mobile Authenticators, information was taken that could potentially compromise the integrity of North American Mobile Authenticators. We have no evidence that other regions were affected. We are working quickly to provide software updates to users.
Well I got an authenticator, and my authenticator has security. As long as,my card info hasnt been touched im fine.
I just formatted my android yesterday, so when I re-download the app I should get a new serial, right/
you should have saved the serial from your old authenticator version. you might have to ring blizzard support.
Battle net is owned by Blizzard, which is subsequently owned by ActiVision.
No. Vivendi was the holding company for Sierra Entertainment and Blizzard. Vivendi merged with Activision to form Activision Blizzard. Vivendi holds the majority stake at 52% of the shares. Therefore Blizzard owns Activision.
What should be the worry is that your EMAIL is secure. If tgey know that and somehow can phish your password, a lot more than your battlenet account may be at risk.
From their support section:
a feature that will allow players to securely change their secret question answer through Battle.net is in development now.
So, is there a way to change it now, or do we need to wait?
you should have saved the serial from your old authenticator version. you might have to ring blizzard support.
Fuck I do, thanks for the tip though
From their support section: So, is there a way to change it now, or do we need to wait?
Theres a way to change it now iirc
Theres a way to change it now iirc
Any idea where it is? I was just on changing my password, but I couldn't find the security questions.
