My school's having a pretty shitty week: Sexual assault allegations towards the Student Body Preside

I go to the University of Ottawa, and it's pretty much been a field day for reporters.
First, several members of our recently (mostly) re-elected student government stepped down after it was revealed that 5 of them had had a conversation about basically having sex with the President (and using words like "punishing her with my shaft" etc). It was blown out of proportion IMO.
OTTAWA — Four University of Ottawa student politicians have resigned after the school’s student federation president spoke out against sexually graphic messages exchanged about her by male students.Anne-Marie Roy, 24, said she felt “shocked and a little nauseous” after receiving a copy of a Facebook conversation between fellow student politicians last month via an anonymous email.
The conversation detailed sexual acts the men wrote they would like to engage in with her and suggested she had sexually transmitted diseases.
Roy told the Citizen she felt the comments were targeted at her because she is a woman in a position of leadership and are a reminder that sexism and misogyny are alive on campus and in Canada.
“It was definitely shocking to see hurtful, misogynistic conversations were still taking place behind closed doors,” she said. “This really goes to show how deeply rooted rape culture is in some people’s way of thinking.”
Next, our student government (the SFUO) attempted to run an event called In My Skin, which was basically where volunteers for focus groups were segregated into white/non-white and then could discuss their issues about racism and stuff. I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they came up with it, but they since cancelled it and I think revised it a bit or something.

In My Skin, an anti-racism campaign held by the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO),will host an event on March 4 to encourage dialogue about students’ experiences with racism.
But according to the event’s original description, the conversation would be split into two groups: whites and non-whites.
“In this meeting, we will have all the racialized folks in one room talking about their experiences, but also what kind of changes do they want to see to challenge racism,” the Facebook page stated. “In another room, we will have all the non-racialized folks talking about their white privileges.”
The page has since been removed from Facebook, but the event will still run as planned.
The SFUO issued a public statement the following day to address the “misunderstood” event. It said the first group will encourage students of colour to share their experiences with racism, while the second group will “provide a space for any student to join in on conversations about power, privilege and about how students who don’t experience racism can be allies in this work.” The SFUO plans for both groups to reunite a week later and share what they discussed at each meeting.

And lastly, this just came up today: the Varsity Men's hockey team was suspended for a year, after it came out that a bunch of them were involved in a sexual assault a while ago when they were in Thunder Bay, presumably for a game/tournament.
OTTAWA — The University of Ottawa has suspended its men’s varsity hockey program after allegations surfaced that multiple members of the team were involved in a sexual assault.
The incident, involving one alleged female victim, a university student in Thunder Bay, was reported to the school by a third party on Feb. 24, according to a statement issued by the University of Ottawa on Monday.
The school reported the incident to police the day after being made aware of the allegations and said it would co-operate fully with any police investigation. Thunder Bay police’s sexual assault unit is leading the investigation.
Ottawa police say they are aware of the incident but have not been asked to assist Thunder Bay police with the investigation.
The school also said it is also conducting its own review, but has suspended all men’s varsity hockey play in the interim.
“The incident occurred several weeks ago. The university is deeply concerned that senior management was only informed about these allegations on February 24, and then by a third party. This will be among the matters examined in the review,” according to the statement.
Facebook is on fire right now. And no one's talking about Ukraine!
ahahahahaha really "punishing her with my shaft."
also why would you fight racism by discussing racism... While committing racism??
Shit man, sucks to go to a university that just lost face in such incidents.
Do you have any more insight to add to the varsity hockey team thing? Did they rape someone or something? That's pretty horrible if so.
When you find out any more detail on that post it in here

They didn't say everyone, just that it's still very much a thing

Do you have any more insight to add to the varsity hockey team thing? Did they gang-rape someone or something? That's pretty horrible if so. all I can imagine is a group of canadian hockey players walking around town yelling "LET'S BANG" at this point
The news only came out in the last few hours, but from what I've read on facebook it looks like it was something along those lines involving only a few of the players and a female university student in Thunder bay. No clue how it happened or any other info though since it's still all private and under investigation.

you can't simply boil down racism to "white people priveligiegd!!! other races am good and oppressed!!!", it's a lot more complicated than that
it's this us vs them mentality that's perpetuating racism tbh
Others have planned an event called Beyond My Skin to discuss racism on campus and provide “a venue for those who want to put their minds together and discuss how we can change things.” The event will also be promoted by Kazakov’s initiative.
this is a great way of doing it

How so? Good thing it's not too big of a deal
