Chinese table tennis player Zhang Jike paid for his exuberant celebrations when he won the Liebherr Men’s World Cup final in Düsseldorf after having his winner’s purse withheld.
After defeating compatriot Ma Long in a dramatic final on Sunday, Zhang celebrated by fly-kicking an advertising hoarding, repeating the trick at the other end of the arena and then removed his shirt, throwing it into the crowd.
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) subsequently decided not to award Zhang his prize money, reported to be worth almost £28,000.
“I am very sorry for what I did,” the ITTF website quoted Zhang as saying. “It was not acceptable behaviour and I am sorry.”
lol at the dudes fighting over the shirt
How fucking stupid. IMO if he won the money fair and square, he gets it, not giving him the cash is just as immature as the stunts he pulled.
i think a line probably has to be drawn of course but in this instance i don't think this dude crossed it. at a time when most sportsmen are boring as hell i think a bit of personality should be welcomed

1) I dont think advertisers like having their brand name kicked
2) The event organizes are probably cheap
1) I dont think advertisers like having their brand name kicked
at face value i can understand that but at the end of the day, thousands of people are gonna watch this video and see that name getting kicked
what's worse, having people know who you are because your foam sign got kicked or having no one know who you are
I guess he did do someping pong by celebrating like that
[sp]actually really sorry[/sp]
The two guys at the end though...
Fucking awesome.
His fans should scrap him these 28 000 pounds.
I would even donate 10$.
dude you're in ping-pong, its like winning the world mini-golf championship... you can only do so much bragging with that
I don't get things like this, are you expected to just walk off the field at a moderate pace with a face void of emotion?
He won, let him have his moment. Just make him pay to replace the thing he broke.

Ping-pong requires amazing reaction and just as much training as any other sport.
Hell, my karate coach said that he would take 1 ping-pong player instead of 5 tough guys because the reaction times of ping-pong players are amazing.
And I don't think winning the world mini-golf championship is such a small deal. I would brag about that for sure.

"I would like to thank my mom and my dad for ruining my childhood GLORY TO CHINA by forcing me to play ping pong when other kids were playing outside, I would like to thank the Chinese minister GLORY TO CHINA, I would like to thank the company whose name is written on my boots..."

I chuckled more than I should have.
Atleast he still has the comforting thought that he won.

"Hey Honey, did you manage to get the money to pay for our bills?"
"No but I got this really awesome sense of self accomplishment! It's awesome!"
"Zhang, we're starving."

I'm disappointed the video cut out when it did - I was actually more interested in them fighting over who got the shirt than the main spectacle of the video itself.

What's he doing playing in a Table Tennis tourney if he needs money that badly then?
Also, the guy is an Olympic and World Tournament player, I doubt those types of people have money troubles.

Dude shut the fuck up, I'd like to see Tiger Woods get the ball through the windmill blades and past the alligator in one shot.

It was a lighthearted joke, I wasn't actually serious. Sorry if it came across that way.
He deserved the prize. It shouldnt matter how "immature" or whatever his celebration was, he probably trained a lot for it and everything. seems fair to just give him the prize? Its not like he was hurting anyone...

Ping Pong ist krieg

its like an Adam Sandler movie
kinda stupid especially since alot of people criticize asian athletes for not having enough personality. and yeah lol at the guy just holding onto the shirt and trying to walk away
You can have personality and be able to celebrate without destroying the signs of the event's sponsors. As is the case of 99.9% of athletes. Just saying.
I'd say the guy in red deserves the shirt. The other guy's attempt just looked half-arsed
