Google briefly went live with a service called Keep that appeared to be designed for ubiquitous content capture and integration with the company's cloud storage service, Drive.
What's wrong with emailing yourself?
competition is always good in situations like this. it looks pretty solid too
reminds me of that google notebook or whatever service they shut down like 2 years ago
RIP Google Keep 2013-2016 no but if they make a decent android app then I'll use it
I have no reason to stop using Evernote at the moment, maybe google can bring something original to the table. Drive integration would be OK, I pay for 25GB storage and use Drive a heck of a lot.
i hope they make it easier to organize notes than evernote does. Like I want something where I can mark a note as "completed", so the ones I haven't acted on aren't buried by completed notes. I know evernote lets you put checkboxes in notes, but that's not the same as hiding notes you're done with.
What's wrong with emailing yourself?
we're not in 1995 anymore
What's wrong with emailing yourself?
My dad does this.
This is good, I have been wondering why android has absolutely no default note taking app in the ecosystem. Even something as simple as the apple notes would be good but you always have to use a third parto solution. This will be good.
Normally if I ever need to remember to do something I just throw it on my Google Calender, but this could come in handy I suppose!
we're not in 1995 anymore
And yet, anyone with a modern Android phone with Google Search turned on can hold down the search button, say "Note to self-", say anything, and it emails it to yourself.
And yet, anyone with a modern Android phone with Google Search turned on can hold down the search button, say "Note to self-", say anything, and it emails it to yourself.
and yet here we are today and that is about to change with this new service. Hence we are moving forward, which was the man's point
Google services are very hit-or-miss it seems. They have absolute gems like Google Search, Google Docs, Google Translate, Google Chrome, Google Calendar, Android etc. etc. etc., and then really forgettable stuff like everything in the Google graveyard. I hope this will be one of their successes.

Google Keep sounds like a 'keeper' in that regard (excuse the pun)
Normally if I ever need to remember to do something I just throw it on my Google Calender, but this could come in handy I suppose!
oh yeah i forgot to mention that evernote doesn't have reminders. it'd be nice if I could jot something down and tell it to notify me about this note on a certain day. Its easy to just write stuff into evernote and forget.
I want this.
I'm currently using Evernote but the notebook logic is somewhat crooked and useless, I gotta make a new notebook for every task/reminder to make the all-in-all view usable. I'll gladly change if the App is designed well.
Yeah, I'm using Evernote for a few months now and it's really good. It's gonna be hard to make a better service.

I've been needing something like this for my android.
I've been using evernote for 1.5 years and it's pretty damn good.

Can't very well guess at something in the modern internet anymore. Facebook, Pandora, Spotify, all filled niches that didn't really "exist" until someone struck upon them and sold it at the right time. Apparently the right time for Google is now.
I've been needing something like this for my android.
Evernote. They've already established that they know how monetize it and keep it stable. Will Google be able to? I can trust them to keep up their core services - gmail, android, chrome - but a note app seems like the kind of thing they'll ditch in a few years
now the google botnetâ„¢ will harvest information from your notes

You can't market against free, especially not free from Google.
Why would they bother selling it when they could make it free? Are they going to have a free and pro version like Evernote does? Is it going to be ad supported? Because my personal notes are one place I won't tolerate advertising being placed. I don't want to get several gigabytes of data in Google Keep only to have them shut it down and give me no easy way to move it to a competing service. The kind of thing I'd save in there would be pretty important.

As for money, they'll make it through scanning all your shit and reading the heuristics. It's a thousand times more valuable to a company like Google to be able to detect it's users and their trends than it is to make a few adbucks when they've got a monopoly elsewhere, much less basic ownership of the entire online advertising market.
I'd consider using this if it's implemented in Android well enough. [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] Oh and Google calendar integration.
