A new player has entered into what seems like a never-ending patent war between Samsung and Apple. After the United States District Court for Northern California granted Apple an injunction against Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone, Google has joined its South Korean partner in its quest to defeat the Cupertino-based company, the Korea Times reported. “It’s too early to comment on our game plan [with Google] in the legal battle; but we will do our best to get more royalties from Apple, which has benefited from our technology,” a Samsung insider said. “The fight is becoming more dramatic and the possibility of a truce in the form of a cross-licensing deal, seems to be becoming likely.” Samsung is demanding Apple pay 2.4% of the retail price of iPhones and iPads to use its technology. The iPhone-maker, however, claims the rate is excessive in regards to the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing guidelines. Apple is also seeking injunctions against Samsung’s products for copying the design of the iPhone and iPad.
Source About time!
I want to see Apple tap out of this one.
I dunno but if I had a billion dollars I'd be happy with that.
Now we just need Microsoft and/or Oracle to join in with Samsung and Google.
Now we just need Microsoft and/or Oracle to join in with Samsung and Google.
Oracle will claim its own side and fuck everything up. Leave them to their own bullshit.
Counter injunction on the iPhone anyone?
Counter injunction on the iPhone anyone?
Both devices should be able to be sold and imported. I'm just happy Google is standing up to Apple for getting their flagship device banned.
The iPhone-maker, however, claims the rate is excessive
Apple calling something "too expensive". That's rich.
Apple calling something "too expensive". That's rich.
And lets not forget they don't agree to paying that sum for using actual Samsung tech while they then tries to ban the Samsung phones for "copying the iPhone design".
Yeah, that seems smart: "Hmm, we're losing out on market share, so let's PISS OFF THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE OUR PHONE'S HARDWARE!!!"
The iPhone-maker, however, claims the rate is excessive in regards to the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing guidelines.
Says the company that has a patent on rectangles and tries to get any rectangle shaped device banned.
Why do I feel like this is a proxy war with corporations?
Says the company that has a patent on curved rectangles and tries to get any rectangle shaped device banned.
Fixed that for ya'. But anyways, I think it's hilarious that Apple doesn't want to pay the 2.5% per iPhone, especially considering how they charge out the ass for the 32gb and 64gb versions of the phone.
