When resizing Chrome's window, YouTube switches from 360p to 480p and to 720p, while the player gets bigger.

How to try the new interface? If you use Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari or Internet Explorer 8+: 1. open youtube.com in a new tab 2. load your browser's developer console: * Chrome or Opera 15+ - press Ctrl+Shift+J for Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command-Option-J for Mac * Firefox - press Ctrl+Shift+K for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-K for Mac * Internet Explorer 8+ - press F12 and select the "Console" tab * Safari 6+ - if you haven't enabled the Develop menu, open Preferences from the Safari menu, go to the Advanced tab and check "Show Develop menu in menu bar". Close Preferences and then press Command-Option-C to show the console. * Opera 12 - press Ctrl+Shift+I for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-I for Mac, then click "Console". 3. paste the following code which changes a YouTube cookie: document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=E_OLzg3yeLw; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload(); 4. press Enter and close the console. To go back to the regular interface, use the same instructions, but replace the code from step 3 with this one: document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=; path=/; domain=.youtube.com";window.location.reload();
A lot of people on FP probably use extensions to change YouTube's layout anyway, but this is great for everyone with a big monitor.
Finally, a half-decent layout apart from the 20 or so crappy layouts before it.
Looks pretty cool.
then it gets changed a month later
I just want your actual youtube channel page to be like it was before. The crappy little banned at the top of the page would take nothing under 2000x1000 or something and even then you can only see a portion of it and it's nothing like the fully customisable pages you could have before.
I've just been using Feather, it's pretty damn good, must have been designed by somebody who isn't on the Youtube team.
Something you should mention in the OP, after pasing the command line you need to have set the youtube player to the small player for it to resize. I had mine set to the large one and it didnt change
I quite like most of this. Except one thing.
YouTube switches from 360p to 480p and to 720p, while the player gets bigger.
For the love of fuck, Google, not everyone can stream 720p! Please oh please let us turn this nonsense off. I love the new layout but this is going to rape the shit out of my DSL.
I've just been using Feather, it's pretty damn good, must have been designed by somebody who isn't on the Youtube team.
Same here. Not seeing youtube comments anymore is fantastic.
I've just been using Feather, it's pretty damn good, must have been designed by somebody who isn't on the Youtube team.
Is there anyway to retain the large size player with feather? the default size is too small
This is glorious.

I like this change.
eh, i hardly use youtube anymore its become unusable and altnative sites are popping up now that are actually decent.

The absolute best Youtube layout was that Cosmic Panda thing they experimented with some time ago. Wish they kept it.
As long as there's still a like/dislike bar, I'll always hate it.
I don't have to do the whole 175% zoom and full view thing anymore!!
As long as there's still a like/dislike bar, I'll always hate it.
Why?
Why?
It's absolutely useless, and most of the time it's abused and gives people false impressions of a really good or really bad video.
Similar to YouTube centre but in my experience, videos wouldn't auto adjust itself on webpage, more like auto adjust itself on the original video file

I love the new layout but this is going to rape the shit out of my DSL.
This is kinda funny considering that normally unless you have an absurdly fast connection Youtube won't automatically do anything above 480p without extensions. My internet connection can load up to 1440p videos faster than I can watch them yet without Magic Actions for Youtube it defaults to 480p on the setting that tries to set quality according to your connection speed.

I wish 100% of embedded Facepunch videos would resize dynamically, I am always using two windows at the same time on my display, and when I want to watch an embedded video, it always has like, half the video cut off.
I've just been using Feather, it's pretty damn good, must have been designed by somebody who isn't on the Youtube team.
Feather is great, but it doesn't allow for resizing the video window. It's fine on a 1366x768 laptop screen like my own, but it becomes quite problematic on higher resolutions.
I like how it makes better use of the space available to it, not needing to leave massive swathes of white on either side. I approve of this alteration so far.
Its been years since I've used an unscripted fixed version of Youtube, maybe someday Google will stop being dickbutts and actually hire a web designer so I won't have to use 10 extensions to use their site properly
Youtube Center's been doing that for eons, you can even make all the buttons (fullscreen, bigger screen, etc) do completely different thing like fit the monitor perfectly, resize to a different size that you chose, etc.
it was doing that for me earlier in the week in firefox, I thought it was a bug, when I cleared my cookies it stopped.
