Stock cpu cooler won't mount. Extreme temps threatening build.

I just found out my cpu(intel C2D E8400) is running as a toasty 97* C according to my BIOs sensors. I already know it's because of the heatsink on the cpu, it won't mount correctly to the motherboard. Basically when i push two of the four pins in, if I attempt to do the other two the same... the first two pop back out. Is there something i'm missing? Halp? D:
intel stock hsf are a bitch you have to work at it alot, and lock it after each pin push

Yes, they're annoying to install. Get another person to help you. They can apply pressure so the other side doesn't pop out.
Bahh. I'm afraid i'll break the mobo with as much pressure i'm applying. Its bending the mobo a feww good degrees and still not popping in.
Think 3/4 pins snapped in place will do the trick? o.o

Yeah, I really need a new one.

After boot and straight into the BIOs hardware monitor, temps read a solid 40* C. I'm gonna run some high intensity stuff in windows before I call it a success though.
Also/ thanks guys :p
I wouldn't trust it until all four pins are successfully in place.

Trust me, it'll take a lot to snap a motherboard.
I wish intel had the AM2 socket cooler desgin those are so easy

I thought the exact same thing recently when putting one onto a Zotac 9300 mini-itx board. I was fucking cursing the dicks out of the damn thing. It's gotten to the point now where my Tuniq Tower is faster/ easier to attach.
I think it's the socket 775 pin system that sucks in general.
Unless you use a backplate with a sexy screw system, I hate those push and twist pins them 775 coolers come with. :ughh:

The one thing I miss when I switched to Intel...
I love taking my computer apart just to put in a new CPU cooler...
once i bent my fucking motherboard trying to fit one of those shitty 775 pin coolers
god damn they piss me off
I now know how to install those easily without applying much pressure to the motherboard, but it's hard to explain and I'm too lazy to.

Or kept the easy 478 latch idea. My old celeron cooler was the best and easiest thing ever.
Oh thank god I'm not the only one who hates push pins.
Oddly enough, my current 775 heatsink uses screws with springs on them.
Weird, I had no idea so many people hate the Intel coolers... I never had a problem with them

Yea same, I guess we're not overclocking though.

Well I'm not using the stock cooler on my desktop anymore (since I am OCing) but I did use it for a while, and I put one in my brother's computer. Both times I found them pretty easy to install.
I removed my stock cooler a few months ago, and when reinstalling it, broke one of the push pins.
I noticed something was fucked when it got up to 95 in GTA IV, so I downclocked my CPU to 2.2Ghz (from 2.83) until I got a new cooler.
