Coming to Windows 8.1 in a future update, it has the look of the Start Menu Windows users have experienced for years, but adds the Live Tiles Microsoft has been pushing as a part of Windows 8 and Windows Phone. - Engadget
Source: Microsoft Build 2014 http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/2/5574830/windows-9-start-menu-new-desktop-experience http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/02/microsoft-teases-a-classic-start-menu-for-windows-8-1-with-built/
Story is developing.... Source: coming... ;)
Dammit, not more Daily Mail journalists.

Yeah, none of the 8.1 Update 1 news articles I've seen mention it. Even the people who managed to update to 8.1 Update 1 early don't mention it. So unless it's coming in 8.2 or whatever the next major iteration is...
apparently Microsoft is doing something I don't know the story and I don't know who said it but it's definitely happening
I updated the thread guys. Sorry for the slow update. Had to take a screenshot of it! My pardon.
But I already got used to the metrosexual UI or whatever they call it
So it's like metro only it's not obnoxiously fullscreen It's like they actually listened!
I never loved it.
You could have taken your time to make the thread properly instead of making it just to have the "exclusivity", it's still contextless
I was just exited about the sudden news. I'll think before posting something again in the future!
Ha, "All Apps". My computer has "programs", Microsoft. Apps are for phones.
This thread screams fake That said, thats actually perfect. Looks almost exactly like the mock-up someone did of how the start menu should work when using W8 under desktop mode (which is kind of why I think its fake). I don't mind the start menu in W8 but the whole full-screen metro app stuff just doesn't make much sense if you are using KB+M and a high res monitor. Makes much more sense for touch screen laptops and tablets.
Hm. Looks like they mixed the old start menu with the new start menu. I like it. Also a source: http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/2/5574830/windows-9-start-menu-new-desktop-experience
but I like the Metro screen :c
I got windows 8.1 pro running on a virtual machine that I use from time to time whilst keeping Windows 7 as my main if this is actually real I might consider swapping them around.
Are all those dumbs because OP made a bad thread, or because people dislike the idea?
but I like the Metro screen :c

— the full-screen Start Menu and apps will still be around for those who want them.
From the verge.

Check the URL and notice how it's an official engadget image. Also Ctrl-f "start menu" on the Engadget liveblog. http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/02/microsoft-build-2014-liveblog/ Just doing this before anyone starts debating the accuracy of this.
Are all those dumbs because OP made a bad thread, or because people dislike the idea?
From what I can tell OP originally had no images or sources. Anyways, I think this is perfect. Giving the user a choice should of been there on day one, or at least added with 8.1 imo.
Ha, "All Apps". My computer has "programs", Microsoft. Apps are for phones.
You know, these kind of smart ass remarks only makes you look like a douche, or ignorant, or even an ignorant douche.
Please no, the start menu was and is a piece of shit that wasn't usefull.
Metro Screen is good... For touch screen users.
What gets me about these threads is usually that people sometime forgive microsoft and get all "oh i might actually use this system now". So that's all it takes for you to sell your trust in a company? You DO know that they're doing this ONLY to get positive voices back.
Please no, the start menu was and is a piece of shit that wasn't usefull.
You can use either, the title needs to be changed because people don't read.
You know, this kind of smart ass remark only makes you look like a douche.
Apps also comes from "applications", which are defined as "A computer program with an interface, enabling people to use the computer as a tool to accomplish a specific task." It's a stupid thing to sperg out about. I call Chrome, Steam and Photoshop apps because it's easier to say than "program" and means the same thing.
From the verge.
That's the most important aspect microsoft can do, give people a choice. I love using metro on my laptop, but I'd love the start menu back on my pc.
You DO know that they're doing this ONLY to get positive voices back.
Exactly, it means they realized their feature bombed.
You DO know that they're doing this ONLY to get positive voices back.
Like you know, every company that rolls out an update or new product?
So they will bring start menu back and replace the only part of the start menu that I use with those tiles i'll never use? thanks microsoft. edit: wait is there an option to make it normal
This is a perfect compromise between the old and the new. Especially not being forced to use "apps" fullscreen.
