I was in the BIOS and noticed in the overclock section of my MSI 865 PE Neo2-P motherboard that you had a bunch of overclocking options, one of them having a setting of "normal", "Turbo", and "custom".
I tried Turbo and rebooted and when I go check to see the speed...

What the fuck?
Okay, I can see hitting like 3.7ghz but I'm going TWICE the speed of my processor at times and keeping below 70c on a stock Intel heatsink and I'm using dielectric grease I bought at Canadian tire for $12.
It seems to be throttling the frequency as the temperature changes as well so it's jumping from 4.1 to 6.5ghz and all the speeds in between all the time.
I'm being gimmicked here, right?

Pretty much. Double check with a program like CPU-Z or something.
I don't know what to say...
Off topic..
But that interface is ugly as shit
That's got to be bogus, there's no way a P4 is getting that high of an overclock without some really off the wall cooling.

This.
It is possible to overclock a p4 over 5ghz, mine took up to 5.7ghz on a stock heatsink, then it refused to boot the OS after 5 boots so I had to clock it down. :v:
According to CPU-z...

The speed is also changing all the time, again, according to the temperature.
Overlocking to rates like that is a good idea. :downs:
CoreCenter is reporting the FSB incorrectly.
This kind of thing has happened to me too.
Just a little more extreme it was my old setup with Asus p5n32-e sli mobo and thermaltake golden orb cooler
This thing actually managed to boot before i noticed it and i quickly pulled the plug..

What the fucking shit.
You are now a professional overclocker :D
1. Auction your computer on eBay as 8 GHz computer.
2. Post pics as proof.
3. Bidders' mind = blown
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
I don't think that scam would work that well :v:
Is your computer in flames?
If yes, then you are/were running at that speed.
If not, no problem.
Can you please overclock my computer too? :p
Happens to me too, though instead my i7 reports 30Ghz instead of 3Ghz.

(Same in CPU-Z)
:ohdear:
and I thought my .5Ghz overclock was fast
Wow... Looks like ArmedForceXFox has competion... and you haven't even lost a CPU yet...
Thats pretty crazy.
It makes my q6600 at 3.3 cry

there's more important things than the Mhz
Send your computer to the bomb squad.
Happens to me too, though instead my i7 reports 30Ghz instead of 3Ghz.

You should submit your validation thing to CPU-Z database.
my netbook's atom goes 2.6 ghz :c00l:
if my calculations are correct you should be able to travel through time with that
up from 1.6
[editline]05:26PM[/editline]
my battery is crying
Awww, it seems to have settled down and is now sitting at the stock 3.2ghz. :(
That is fucking incredible.
If I really wanted to, my BIOS would let me do something like 6.5ghz on my Athlon II X4. I didn't try it as I don't want a fried CPU.

Beats my AMD Athlon at 2.3ghz
