I'm looking for a new, decent gaming rig, and after about a couple of weeks of research, I found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227190
I'm not interested in the quality of the components (I've read the reviews) so much as I am interested in the that of the manufacturer, iBUYPOWER. Does anyone have any experiences with them to share with me, good or bad?
And before all you purists come in here and yell at me to just build my own rig, I did the math:
Through Newegg/iBUYPOWER: $1383 with tax and shipping
Building it myself with the same components: $1615 with tax and shipping
So basically I could pay $200 extra to do the labor myself... no thanks.
So, what are your thoughts on iBUYPOWER?
iBUYPOWER is still overpriced. I could build a newegg equivalent that could still spank it's performance with equal the price.
iBUYPOWER is still overpriced. I could build a newegg equivalent that could still spank it's performance with equal the price.
My price for the "build it myself" is from newegg. So, respectfully, no you can't.
And I was thinking more along the lines of quality of build, service, and/or support
ibuypower is pretty good, and with what you said you'd be a fool to buy it yourself
Really?
1615?
Because I made an i7 rig just right now and it costs less including tax,
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=11599925
and I consciously went for good parts, such as 1600 GSKILL RAM instead of the generic 1333.
EVGA 285, whereas, the iBuyPower will probably give you the cheapest gfx card (although I'm a believer in equality of brands)
You can go even better by replacing the WD green harddrive with a high quality one.
Being biased/lazy/ignorant won't help.
Are you going to trust the quality of pre built computer on 3 reviews from people who only had it for about a week?
To answer your question. They are ok. Like all companies, I have heard of some really embrassing mistakes such as placing RAM in wrong slots. But it'll work.
I have an iBuyPower computer and it runs great and I had no problems with it. out of the box it ran fine and everything. But I have seen some reviews with dissatisfaction so you never know.

no offense or anything
but why buy overpriced nvidia gpus when you can get something like a 5850 for like 50$ less

"Building it myself with the same components"
Because I assumed OP wanted 285 or he would bitch about it.
also, the 5850 is really suppose to cost 260 :/ Supply problems caused price inflation

So, when they go back to normal 100$ less! Everything shot up, my DDR2 went from 49$ to 89, then eventually 100$.
I was planning on buying custom configuration from iBUYPOWER's site a while ago, but then I decided to go with CyberPowerPC since it seemed like a better deal to me.

Great finds, but you're forgetting the $200 windows 7. And tax. And shipping.

Actually, for months there was a version with vista and 7 upgrade. That one had like 28 reviews, all 4 and 5 stars. When Windows 7 released, they deactivated the old one and created the one I gave you here. I think only 4 or 5 people have been able to buy the new one because that's about how many times its actually been in stock.
I looked at these two things, too:
http://www.ibuypower.com/Testimonial/feedback.aspx
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/iBUYPOWER
But ultimately I wanted to get gamers' opinions of them, not just a bunch of people going "oh it works ok i guess. 5 stars!"

Well said.
As for ATI cards, I have zero knowledge of them, so I tend to stay away from them. (Not that they're bad or anything, I'm just much more familiar with Nvidia)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754
only 104.
Tax is % so it will be the same.
Are you going to trust reviews on IBUYPOWER's site? There is obvious biased involved.
If you are familiar with Nvidia than you would know they are falling way behind in the GPU market.
5850s run faster than 285 and are cheaper even with the inflated price.
I've heard mixed sentiments about iBuypower. One of my friends bought from them about 1/2 a year ago and had to return it because it was DOA. They did send him another one to the exact same specifications after he shipped the dead one in though, free of charge and it has been working fine ever since.
I'd honestly suggest that if you do buy from them that you make sure to have at least a 1 year warranty on parts.
Build it.
Build it.
.
Hooray for people not reading the OP! I'll only build it if worse comes to worst.
I'll look into the HD 5850 today.

What do you have against building one?
It takes 30min to an hour to build one.

I'm not exactly sure what you managed to throw together as a build, but you can build a better and higher quality computer for the same price.
I ordered a PC from iBUYPOWER a week or so ago. I'll let ya know how it is when it comes in.
I ordered a PC from iBUYPOWER a week or so ago. I'll let ya know how it is when it comes in.
Awesome for wasted money!!

DDR2 went up for a different reason. The memory manufacturers are trying to push DDR3 and get people to stop buying DDR2. The other reason is because Christmas is in less than a month so they can get away with price hikes.
My last computer crapped out (motherboard was shit and was going to die soon anyway) but my parents blamed it on me and wouldn't let me build my own again so I was pretty much forced to buy a pre-built. I bought mine from Ibuypower about a year ago and the pricing was decent, maybe a little more than if you built it yourself but it's held up really well and I have no complaints. If you're going to buy a pre-built Ibuypower is a good choice.

This post, and the ones like it, are exactly what I am looking for: personal experience with ibuypower.
If you guys had read the OP, you would know that it would actually cost MORE to buy the SAME PARTS separately and build it myself. It has nothing to do with time, or with my knowledge of computers. I have plenty of both.
That being said, if you have actual evidence to back up your claim, I am a LOT more likely to go along with it. Just coming in here and going "lawl build it nub all premades are overpriced kthnxbai" does not help anyone. Do you really think I haven't considered building it? That was actually the first thing I looked at.
EDIT: wow the 5800 series looks amazing. this opens up new possibilities (but does not set anything in concrete)

You're an idiot.
Thank you for the great contribution.
I got a cyberpowerpc which is equivalent. I had thoughts about not getting it or not and I finally got it, everything came in fine and dandy, still runs to this day. And for the people who thought it was still a bad choice, I actually profited off getting it, I got some cool goodies like a cyberpower bag AND there was a promotional contest cyberpowerpc ran.
The contest was meant to show off your PC in a video, I showed mine off, not a fantastic video but better then the majority of the people.
I won the contest and guess what I won?
$500 gift card. :)
haha sweet
IBUYPOWER is the same as CyberPower so my statement could apply here. While you may be getting a good deal here, you take the risk of having something go wrong such as part defects. My friend who bought a $1800 setup from CyberPower had his computer arrive without the sound card plugged in. It is easy to fix but that is probably one of the most clumsy mistakes you could make. It also didn't have any of the side fans because they "couldn't fit", yet when I lent him a few 120mm fans, they fit fine. After about a year, the power supply also blew, thus having him to pay more for a new one. The case that came with it also had static issues that eventually lead to the failure of his motherboard (Long story). Maybe that isn't the company's fault, but I still wouldn't take the risk.
Yeah, the prices may seem good but take into account of what might happen later on. Chances are, if you build it yourself, you might save yourself some problems later on down the road if you buy quality parts and you know your way around the box. As for my friend, his computer works now but not after replacing virtually everything of importance minus the video card and hard drive.
I've seen more complaints about IBUYPOWER
I bought a pc from CyberPower, works fine and I've had it for a year
Better to build one though
iBuyPower is pretty good, they don't overcharge that bad and they offer good-brand components for everything, for a little bit extra.
Just so you people stop going "durp ibuypower is bad cyberpower is awesome", they're the same company.
