1782bhp Koenigsegg Regera Is A Hybrid Hypercar With No Gearbox
This is Koenigsegg’s first hybrid; the internal combustion engine side is taken care of by a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which makes 1085bhp at 7800rpm on its own. On top of that you’ve got three electric motors, one on each rear wheel making 192lb ft of torque each, and a third on the crankshaft making 221lb ft. All told these three add about 700bhp. Chuck that all in a bowl and mix it together for a frankly incredible 1782bhp and 1475lb ft of torque.
What makes the Regera special though, is that it has a new style of transmission called Koenigsegg Direct Drive. Compared with traditional transmissions and CVTs, it cuts energy losses by up to 50 per cent. We can’t wait to get a proper technical breakdown of how it works, but in layman’s terms the system uses a hydraulic clutch. You pull away using the rear-mounted electric motors, and as speed increases the engine is slowly brought into play with the help of the crank-mounted motor.
Power delivery is so intense that the 0-62mph sprint takes 2.7sec, but it could be quicker - the car is essentially limited by its traction control system being able to get the power down. Once it’s hooked up, though, there’s no stopping it: 0-186mph takes 12 seconds, while 0-250mph is despatched in under 20 seconds. 93mph to 155mph takes 3.2sec.
Now THIS is hybrid technology I can get behind. Fuck a Prius or a Tesla, give me THIS!

This is insane, I want it.
oh wow the car can go 0-186mph in 12 seconds how useful

Looks like it's RWD though? Wouldn't it be faster with 4WD?
I'm waiting for this type of technology to hit regular sports cars. Electric motors for bottom end, high revving boosted small blocks for top end. It's the best of both worlds....

AWD adds more weight and more parasitic drivetrain loss, which would mean a lower top speed.
I'm sure the police would love me doing 299km/h in a 60 zone

You should have included pictures.
This car is pure sex.
Wait, is the windscreen wiper really in a vertical rest position?

Yeah. At 200+ mph, wipers tend to start fluttering if they are in the normal position. This makes them more aerodynamic and less prone to spazzing and flying off....
I love what these new hyper cars are doing.
Like the new Porsche and that new Mclaren, both using a hybrid setup to achieve super responsive, powerful and lightning quick response.
God damn though, 1728hp? That's nuts.

Couldn't they just work to obscure them under the bonnet or some shit?
You're not gonna be doing 200+ mph in any weather that requires wipers

It doesn't look like there is any space to hide it behind the hood. It could also be due to the shape of the windshield.
And it doesn't matter if you're using them or not. Even if you're not, they still become prone to flipping out if they are in an orientation that will catch wind instead of letting it pass by.

Yea absolutely. Would look great going the speed limit... -.-

Its essentially using electric motors on each wheel, 4wd isn't possible unless they add two more motors. At least if I'm reading that right, the motors are basically the gearbox replacing the transmission between the engine and wheels, its sort of funny because this type of tech is not new at all, most factories in the turn of the last century used electricity like thi
Its really not clear how this works though, but I'd hardly call this a hybrid considering they don't say it has any internal battery or even a quoted electric range, it seems to me that it just has motors to transmit the power from the engine
For those of you that wonder, Regera means "To Rule".
First One:1, now this. I never thought of seeing Koenigsegg going this far.

At this rate, the power exceeds Veyron and Venom GT.
My car uses a hydraulic clutch too, buttons on the steering wheel to shift - needless to say it does not go from 0 to 250mph in 20 seconds, its top speed is only 240kmh.
What happens when you put Bond style nitro missiles on it?

it does have a battery, and it has 22 miles of EV range. as far as i know, it's not the electric motors that act as the gearbox. the engine drives 1:1 a 2.81 final drive, and the electric motors are used to power the car at lower speeds where the motor would be stuck at <2k rpms and not making much power. that's also why the top speed is ~250 as apposed to 270+ with the agera r and the one:1 despite having more power.
imo it wouldn't take too much work and it would get more traction if the two electric motors were driving the front wheels, but koenigsegg probably just doesn't believe in awd.

Or put a gearbox on an electric motor and not bother faffing around with the weight of two engines. Gas-powered supercars already have amazing acceleration, you'd be sacrificing a bit of the electric motor's bottom end power but you'd still easily beat what's already out there.

Performance usually trickles down and meets efficiency.

It's for driving balls out at the track though, I'd drive slow in regular traffic to let people stare a little bit.

It's a Prius vs. a BMW
Kinda silly but whatever

no fun allowed? wait, title checks out.
IIRC [del]Koenigsegg[/del] is coming out with new windshield wiper technology that there are no wipers and the window just vibrates the rain off, similar on how jet's do it. Believe they said that it will be coming to more affordable cars as well! Which would be neat.
It was McLaren that came out with that!
oh wow the car can go 0-186mph in 12 seconds how useful
its almost like thats just a test of the mechanics or something, or perhaps that this is a big-boys toy and not a daily commuter?

All the fun got sucked out of my room and into my monitor. Can I have it back? Please?

Someone's not too shavvy on pushing technology huh..
"oh wow 1 guy's got electricity in his house how useful",
This' whole new engine technology, who knows what it's capable of doing if put in a train or dumbed down and used commercially.
It's incredible. I fucking love it.

I, for one, welcome our Swedish overlords. :v:

originally electricity was a form of entertainment...
