At the same time that President Trump swore in Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, he signed three executive actions on crime and public safety, including one that targets drug cartels.
"I'm signing three executive actions today designed to restore safety in America,” Trump said in the Oval Office after swearing in Jeff Sessions as attorney general.
"These dangerous times require a determined attorney general," Trump said at an Oval Office ceremony for Sessions, who said rising crime is a "dangerous, permanent trend" in the United States and also promised to "end this lawlessness" of illegal immigration.

It's unclear what any of the actions would do precisely, and the White House did not immediately provide copies of what Trump had signed. Trump said he is directing the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security “to undertake all necessary and lawful actions to break the back of the criminal cartels that have spread across our nation and destroying the blood of our youth

The orders establish three Department of Justice task forces to fight drug cartels, reduce violent crime and reduce attacks against police. The White House did not immediately release copies of the orders.
Something about this worries me immensely.

"Pay no attention to the orders behind the curtain."
If anything most of these actions are symbolic. Executive orders can only dictate how government agencies do things, not change things into law.
Remember Trump didn't change the law when he tried to ban immigration from a few nations, he changed how immigration was enforced. How it was enforced was deemed unconstitutional. Obama did the same thing with "legal pot"(I say so in quotes because it is still illegal on a federal level), and because pot has no constitutional protections or prejudices it stands.
this will probably be more of those bills that sound wholeheartedly patriotic and helpful, but in reality actually will make things much worse
Well that isn't vague at all, is it?
/s
Isn't this what those organizations usually do? Or at least try to?

Except isn't violent crime at a historic low after falling for the last 40 years?
seems like one of those could be construed by a zealous DEA to stop pot legalization across the country

No worries, Trump will bring the US back to first place in per capita violent crime.

not if youre a scaremongering right wing altfact
Let's just hope he doesn't decide to go full Duerte. Imagine waking up and seeing this being retweeted everywhere:
"Stupid druggie-loving liberals are blocking my GREAT drug reform! Corrupt rebel traitor judges!"
"All true patriots who support the second Amendment are the only solution now! I will pardon you!"
@realDonaldTrump, 2 weeks from now

Murder in large cities has increased on average by more than 10% for two years in a row.
Homicide clearance also has dropped to around 60% from almost 90% in the 60s according to this article.
There's definitely a problem in some ways. Whether the current administration will actually address that is a different matter, though. The executive order here doesn't seem like a solution (or going particularly near the problem, for that matter) to me.
Except isn't violent crime at a historic low after falling for the last 40 years?
They get around this by citing specific cities where the crime rate has increased, and only citing those cities in specific periods of time where they hit like 300% crime increases.
If 10 people were murdered in Chicago in January 2015, and 20 were murdered in Chicago in January 2016, Trump will be the first guy out there going "the crime rate has doubled in Chicago!"
It's just a totally blatant disregard for the field of statistics, and it's totally intentional. Misrepresenting and skewing statistics to promote policy goals is the opposite of how government should work.

People are dumb when it comes to crime rates. And theres no sugar coating it. Instead of using the actual crime rate, we should be looking at the percieved crime rate because thats's what people think.

Seems like "feels before reals" is a increasing trend worldwide, and that's honestly disturbing.
the way the title and articles are worded, it makes it sound like the executive order literally just said 'stop crime', which is a hilarious thought
"Yeah, we signed an order - 'Stop crime!' Now crime's illegal! Crime's over!"

Turns out that throughout those 8 years Obama just plain forgot to switch on the law button that lights up the law sign which means that the law is in effect. But luckily Trump was the only one that saw it was off and that's when he hatched his master plan. But now that the light is on after the executive order, it's impossible to commit a crime in America. I'm sure you can find some footage of Muslims trying to get into America but being repelled by an invisible forcefield after Trump's travel ban. It wasn't on any of the TV stations though because they're FAKE NEWS.

I've always wondered why if crime was so bad they didn't just make it illegal.
Wow, what a strong leader.

Holy balls Trump do you think you can go ten minutes without fear-mongering to get power.

In alternative America it's actually at an all time high
I can't wait for his order to "fix the middle east crisis".

As a CJ major, I dread what the GOP and Trump will do to "combat crime". We don't need longer or harsher prison time. The Tough On Crime model has failed

but being tough on crime somehow makes people feel safer even though it tends to just breed more crime
A DHS official confirmed that while immigration agents were targeting criminals, given the broader range defined by Trump’s executive order they also were sweeping up non-criminals in the vicinity who were found to be lacking documentation. unfortunately this cannot be blocked like the muslim ban.
Is there like a limit on how many executive orders a president can give? i mean, i swear he's literally just turning the doodles of his idle retarded brain while not paying attention in an important political meeting into orders now.
