President Trump made building a wall along the southern U.S. border and forcing Mexico to pay for it core pledges of his campaign.
But in his first White House call with Mexico’s president, Trump described his vow to charge Mexico as a growing political problem, pressuring the Mexican leader to stop saying publicly that his government would never pay.
“You cannot say that to the press,” Trump said repeatedly, according to a transcript of the Jan. 27 call obtained by The Washington Post. Trump made clear that he realized the funding would have to come from other sources but threatened to cut off contact if Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto continued to make defiant statements.

Before ending the call, Trump noted that at least one of his conversations that day had gone far more smoothly. “Putin was a pleasant call,” Trump said, referring to Russian President Vladi•mir Putin. “This is ridiculous.”
The best leaked transcripts always start with “You cannot say that to the press."
One-track Trump keeps whining about losing the popular vote instead of actually trying to do something with the tools he already has, and failing to get anything done despite having control over most of the major government organs. And not surprised at all he goes after the refugees because his brainless yes-men seem to think all problems begin and end with them.
Embarrassment in Chief
It requires, in return, for us to do a number of things for the United States – this is a big deal, I think we should respect deals.
Did our PM take a crash course in handling Trump?
Even though he repeats himself constantly, I always have to reread his quotes like five times just to figure out what the fuck he's trying to say because his mind is so scattered and wandering.
I have had it. I have been making these calls all day and this is the most unpleasant call all day. Putin was a pleasant call. This is ridiculous.
:why:
Read a bit of each and Christ, I knew Trump was a uncompromising man-child before, but he must be a nightmare to have to talk to regarding anything and "deals" he doesn't like.
"sir, president trump is on line 1 for you"
"oh fuck that shit. T-Tell - just tell him I'm on the shitter."
I fear for our foreign relations with a child like him at the helm.

'Sir, Orange in Chief just called in, he's waiting.'
'Two options, one, the cheesiest hold music you can find + leave him on hold until he hangs up, or tell him I said 'we only negotiate with adults'.
From the President of Mexico to Trump:
I would appeal to you, Mr. President, for us to allow room to look for a new solution between our two countries. Let me be very specific on one matter – any issue that alters the economic situation in Mexico, I think, it also constitutes a potential risk for the United States, especially in terms of migration issues, Mr. President. Let me tell you that the best virtual wall that I think we can build between our two countries is to make sure that both countries have economic development.
Thank you! This is such a basic fucking concept and it is driving me crazy that Trump is ignoring it. The short-sighted bullshit that he's trying to pull to "stop those bad hombres from coming over here" is only going to make the problem worse.
If you want to stem the flow of illegal immigrants from South of the border, you have to work to help Mexico's economy improve. That's one of the single biggest things you can do.
Beyond that, work with the Mexican government, set up joint task forces and teams, to root out the corruption in local government and law enforcement so that a unified front can be presented against the human, drug, and weapon traffickers in the cartels.
Finally, adjust our drug policy to see one of the major financial legs out from under the cartels in smuggling drugs to the US.
Make a stronger Mexico, and you'll make a stronger America, with less of the problems that Trump ran his campaign promising to curb. He is like a fucking child, thinking the solution to something you don't like is to stop looking at it and refuse to knowledge it.
He just doesnt get anything lmao
The only thing he gets is his own rhetoric. I'm not sure you can successfully conduct international diplomacy with DJT without using his own quotes after a fashion.
Everything is about his rallies and promises. You can be 'bleeding out of your... wherever' in an economic sense and Trump just won't care unless you're patting him on the back or calling him the greatest. It's your problem, not his, but you better be giving him gifts and thanks even as he looks down on you. He can't stand not being the Great Leader even though his every action makes him the furthest thing from a Great Leader.
What we have as a nation right now is a Kindergartner-in-Chief who refuses to sit still, listen to his peers or his 'parents', and who blames everything he does on everyone else. It's not that he lied, it's that you misheard. It's not that something didn't happen, it's that you were wrong about what it meant. He's acting the part of a spoiled, petulant, brat and will make great fodder for case studies on how to write a villain that nobody can sympathize with.
He's weak. He's foolhardy. He's narcissistic. At this point I really won't be surprised if in a few years he just decides to be Batman and declare perpetual Martial Law and himself the Dictator-in-Chief in an epic tantrum over some stupid little thing like someone putting mustard on his steak.
Trump in his chat with Turnbull sounds like your typical pro refugee advocate holy fuck
"This shows me to be a dope" - Donald J. Trump
To be very honest with you, I did not want to have a meeting. I did not want to meet with Luis, I did not want to meet with Mexico, I did not want to meet with anybody. It was only because of a very good relationship that Jared Kushner has with Luis that these two decided to meet and discuss, but I was not really in favor for that meeting. I felt that we should do a much simpler solution, and that solution was tariffs at the border, because the United States has a trade deficit with Mexico of $60 billion. And the United States will not have those deficits anymore.
Yeah why have a meeting about an issue when you can just fuck things up without it??
It'd be nice to go just one day without things getting somehow even worse in the white house.
Trump in his chat with Turnbull sounds like your typical pro refugee advocate holy fuck
Pro refugee advocate? Did we read entirely different transcripts, or am I just misunderstanding you? Turnbull had to remind Trump about half a dozen times that these people that Trump kept referring to as prisoners and criminals and terrorists were not actually "in prison" or charged with any crimes, and that they were fully vetted and not believed to be a security risk. Trump responded each time by completely ignoring Turnbull's explanations and ranting about the Boston Bombers and shit (who were Russian, and not from any of the countries that these refugees were from, Turnbull corrected).
Trump sounded like an ignorant fool. That kind of shit is what I'd expect to hear at the dinner table on Thanksgiving from my overzealous, ultra-conservative uncle, right after a spirited rant about how hard Obama tried to ruin America with Sharia Law, and how the fags are taking over our country and molesting our children in bathrooms.

Honestly, Trump wearing his xenophobic and racist shit on his sleeve. He's completely misunderstanding Turnbull here and instead seizes on the one point of interest to him: This guy found a way to keep ALL Muslims out? Wow! What a good idea!
I'm glad I took the time to read the whole thing, it was totally worth it. From Trump's constant lying and attempts to cozy up to people by calling them by their first name (and being weirdly ambivalent about showering them with personal praise, then threats), to him again and again citing Kushner as his go-to for working the actual details after Trump's "smoothtalking".
But I think what stood out the most to me is how concerned he always seemed about his image. Turnbull talked about economic advantages, political consistency and corrected Trump's facts on the Boston Bombers. But the only consequence of the deal that Trump was concerned about was how it made him look, how it fit with his campaign promises. Similar deal with Nieto, who tried to solve Trump's problem in different more effective/beneficial ways, but Trump a) wanted to stick by the wall because he pinned a lot of his reputation on that deal b) wanted to make sure the President of Mexico uses vague language when talking to the press so it's obfuscated that he turned down Trump again, hard.
I usually only get a foot deep in American politics and read the headlines, some summaries, quotes and comments. Which is why I usually reserve some room of doubt. Reading this transcript basically eliminated all of it.

Trump's entire presidency so far can be summed up as "regressing everything Obama has done".
I have been telling this to every group of 50,000 people or 25,000 people – because no one got people in their rallies as big as I did.
I swear you could make a chat bot that just spouted on about Hillary and his crowd size and Trump would be out of a job.

I'd trust the chatbot to run the country better as well, tbh
Trump's entire presidency so far can be summed up as "regressing everything Obama has done".
Makes you wonder how Obama feels about this?
Other than relieved not to be president anymore, I'd imagine he'd be a tad upset to see 8 long years of work slowly and viciously torn to shreds before his eyes. I know I would.
I like the part where he is asking the President of Mexico to stop saying Mexico won't pay for the wall, the subtext being that Mexico paying was never even a possible scenario and Trump knew that.
On a related note, which chapter of The Art of the Deal explains begging?
On a related note, which chapter of The Art of the Deal explains begging?
I doubt Trump's even read the book. He barely had anything to do with writing it, after all, after he turned out to be harder to interview or work with than an ADHD toddler.
I'm sorry but this is entirely what the fuck

This is like arguing with a stupid youtuber's comment...
Retarded and pointless...
This was a fascinating read. I've never seen this deeply into international relations before. Really hits at the heart of how much of these peoples' platforms are pure rhetoric, and how little power they truly have in the face of the status quo.
[Editline] it's not what it looks like[/editline]
However, this does still do terrible damage to the political back channeling of the US government, and these leakers should probably be found and prosecuted to the highest extent of the law. Assuming it's all legitimate, of course.

Its strange to me that you completely shut off all the shit Trump has acted and said in these leaked Transcripts. And also the fact you believe the leakers are in the wrong. Also, By Terrible damage to the Political back Channeling of the US government. I think thats Trump's Fault for acting like that, in fact. These leakers have probably helped American Politics, because they've showed how much fucked it is. IMHO
