Sources close to Adobe that have been briefed on the company’s future development plans have revealed this forthcoming announcement to ZDNet:Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates. Additionally, the e-mail briefing to Adobe’s partners has been summed up as follows: Adobe is Stopping development on Flash Player for browsers on mobile. Adobe is now focusing their development efforts on: Applications for mobile Expressive content on the desktop (in and out of browser) Increasing their investments in HTML5 in general The full content and scope of the announcement is expected to be posted on the Adobe web site in the next day.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/exclusive-adobe-ceases-development-on-mobile-browser-flash-refocuses-efforts-on-html5/19226]Source The end of an age?
Well, they thankfuly can't do the same thing with desktop flash, as HTML5 is not ready to assume all the functionality that Flash has. Still, I tried the hacked ARM V6 flash player on my android phone, it ran surpsingly well.
I love dicking around with http://boxcar2d.com/ on my phone when bored out of my ass. Only problem is that I'd need a local webserver on my phone for playing it without internet.
Can't you just save the .swf file and use a swf viewer from the market?
Why didn't i think of that? Damn I feel stupid now.
They want to stay alive in the web market, Drop Flash. Compared to the effectiveness of HTML5 flash is nothing.
HTML5 and webGL perform far far better, I will give them that. But they simply cannot do as much. How exactly do you write a video chat program in HTML/Javascript?
I called this a few months ago. I hope this means a more widely-adopted open-format standard for vector graphics.
ahem, just gonna leave this here:
New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind. Steve Jobs April, 2010

ahem, just gonna leave this here:
Oh my fuuckkkk when well I go a single day without hearing Steve Jobs metioned again
ahem, just gonna leave this here:
I would like to point out that Steve was a sack of shit when it came to continuing the use of standards over at least three generations of product. Who knows what the iPhone 6 might of supported.
ahem, just gonna leave this here:
The problem is that he was using this as an excuse for not supporting Flash, thus locking in the market. Why do you think iPhone apps are mostly paid, not free like Android? Because Apple can and wants to money.
I would like to point out that Steve was a sack of shit when it came to continuing the use of standards over at least three generations of product. Who knows what the iPhone 6 might of supported.
iShine - the new and revolutionary interactive multimedia platform!
How stupid. HTML5 is a technology that is still in development and does not even come close to the capabilities Flash has (yet). It's funny that Steve Jobs was supporting HTML5 that much, but Safari doesn't even come close to supporting it fully (for example audio support sucks). I always thought of Flash as a replacement until HTML5 would be fully complete, but no, now we have nothing.

Its used for animation as well and there simply isn't a single other program that does 2D computer animation like Flash.

HTML5 development is going to go much faster then when flash started. Especially with Adobe,Google,Apple backing it.
Right, you tell me how you'd get vector based animation then. Its used beyond games dimwit. Unreal Engine also now works on Flash.
SVG files. and webGL can do everything flash can. [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] Graphically that is.
SVG files. and webGL can do everything flash can. [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] Graphically that is.
So you're basically saying you're going to need to know 3 different languages with different syntax's to make a simple animation? Also ActionScript is relatively simple, I've been taking a class where we're using ActionScript and it is strikingly similar to ECMA script which is what Javescript is based off of.
Flash will be worse than IE6, people will still be making sites with it 10 years after Adobe abandon it if not 15
Flash will be worse than IE6, people will still be making sites with it 10 years after Adobe abandon it if not 15
They're trying to integrate Flash into HTML 5, not abandon it outright.
Flash is for the web, why wouldn't you know HTML and Javascript?
Because maybe I don't make websites? Maybe I just make animations. Flash is extremely easy to use for those who are technologically challenged but very artistic and love to make animations.
Then you can deal with it. Flash was for interactive web content not silly videos. [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] Atleast Newgrounds can disappear now.
Which reminds me, Valve needs to release a Steam client beta that uses HTML5 for it's store instead of Flash Player, that'd be nice.
Then you can deal with it. Flash was for interactive web content not silly videos.
Bahahahahahaha no. It was originally developed with a limited scope for animations. AS 1.0 is a reflection of this because it was incredibly difficult to make games or anything beyond hit the play button. AS 2.0 recognized people were using it for other purposes and AS 3.0 is completely redone for everything flash is needed for. I'm actually curious as to how many of you actually have tried using Flash.
They're trying to integrate Flash into HTML 5, not abandon it outright.
Source? I've never heard that
Who knows what the iPhone 6 might of supported.
Nothing :v:
Source? I've never heard that
Hold on, let me dig one up.
I called this weeks ago and everyone laughted at me. "Flash is getting deprecated."
"No way you don't know what you are talking about. It's too widespread, it will take years until development slowly transitions onto HTML5."
Yeeeaaahhhhh.
