Engadget has been told by "a trusted source" that Sony Ericsson will introduce a cross between the PSP Go and an Android phone later this year. The handset (which is mocked up above -- not the actual product) is supposed to be a "landscape slider," but instead of a QWERTY keyboard like a mobile phone or regular game controls like the PSP, it will have PlayStation buttons, a d-pad and a "long touch pad" to mimic dual analog input.
Sony Ericsson's device will run Android 3.0, and games will be made available through a special section of the Android Market, with versions of God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and LittleBigPlanet reportedly used as examples of what sort of lineup we could expect. Additionally, games that meet certain requirements might be made available to other Android handset users and, eventually, titles might embrace other smartphone features such as augmented reality.
The phone is reportedly set to be introduced sometime this October. With the actual PSP already experimenting with phone-like functions like Skype, it's not a stretch to see Sony try and bring some of its gaming know-how to the mobile phone space in a PSP-like package.
The big question that sticks in my mind is, are sony
finally gonna make it non-hackable like the ps3.
I hope they might throw in some PSN functionality in there but
so far that doesnt look like it;s gonna happen
Sounds awesome
No.
Cool but, meh.
droid phone with extra horsepower...
Interesting...
Unhackable PSP = no fun
Never been a fan of gaming on a screen that's smaller than my penis.

Then I don't see the problem.

so you were a fan of gameboy micro then right

Also, one thing to be noted, Sony originally wanted to add phone options to the PSP, but didn't think it fair to force people to pay a monthly fee just to play games, and they'd wait until they can successfully have options.
i guess 5-6 years was enough time to wait

fixed. sorry, this just annoys me, i'll never forgive Verizon
Give me a million zings I had it coming and I know it. Couldn't resist.

hacking is reponsible for why the PSP failed in epic proportions
if this PSPhone ca be hacked I hope it can only be hacked like an
iphone, so it can run 3rd party and get free stuff.

A) the ps3 has been hacked actually, it just took forever and geohot decided not to release how because he's a big cunt
B) of course they will, why wouldn't they put in PSN functionality? android already supports social networking shit plain vanilla, right? and then you have HTC, Samsung, and Motorola adding their own social widgets, why can't Sony/SonyEricsson? also, it's a dire need, Windows Phone 7 is going to have LIVE support, and the Zune HD already does (iirc). they both need the competition

that makes no fucking sense because the PSP got hacked like the day after it released. both in japan and north america.

The psp, while in second place, has actually sold quite alot, especially in Japan where it frequently is the best selling or 2nd best selling system per month outselling the Wii and DS quite often.
This sounds really cool. Maybe I can finally find something more useful than my iPhone.
This apparently...

I see it's a mockup.
that's because japanese people love small and portable(really they prefer tablets to PCs), so that eliminates the Wii, and they love capability, and out of the box the PSP does a lot more than the DS does. but outside of Japan, it has not outsold the Wii nor the DS.

Who said I was talking about the games? :downs:
The real reason why the early PSP models were so successful in terms of sales popularity WAS because of their hackability
On second thought I don't want people interrupting me with calls as I play.
It will likely just be a small name popup in the corner sort of like when somebody says hi to you while playing a game on steam.
If indies can release games for it, then I am ok with this phone.
A) the ps3 has been hacked actually, it just took forever and geohot decided not to release how because he's a big cunt
Uh no he didn't. His so called "hack" didn't do shit. He quit because he realized it wasn't going to go anywhere, especially since Sony removed the OtherOS feature.
Sony tried too hard to make psp un hackable they should've just use piracy on their side and try to disable multiplayer from the hackers.
So you like old nokia phones? :eng101:
It's Android so it's hackable, hell even the Droid Xs efuse couldn't stop hacking. And the mockup is of a Samsung Captivate.

Hacking the PSP is the best thing that has come to the PSP.
I mean, why the fuck did sony even remove the ability to run 3rd part applications?
I understand how they are not so very happy with the ISO/ running games without the UMD scene, but even though, they shouldn't off removed those features in the first place.
Its like selling a locked door without the appropriate key.

sony never actually gave anyone the ability to run 3rd party applications
[editline]01:07PM[/editline]
iirc nintendo didn't either
[editline]01:10PM[/editline]
why is anyone even discussing the psp though this isn't going to be anything like the psp, it's just going to be an android device with psp controls and the ability to play psp games, other than that it'll be nothing like the psp. you'll still be able to install and do whatever the hell you want with it
haha nope
You'd be surprised.

The PSP isn't usable unless you hack it, so your argument is invalid.
