They got so many ideas from TF2 but the one fucking idea they should have taken, they didn't.
A high player count now makes a game 'Game of The Year', not the quality of the game as a whole or any of that shit.
Oh well.

Wow settle down, you make it sound like its total garbage.

It is though

Wow it's almost like people can have different opinions
It is though
Must be why people play it enough for it to win GOTY :badzing:

Fuckin explains why Titanfall 2 isn't anywhere on this list
Apparently people like poor map design.
I apparently love bad map design.
Apparently people like poor map design.
Almost a year since release (3 months left) and they still have not changed anything. Can't they take a hint? Don't they have enough data from statistics? Who the fuck even thinks up these "oh, attackers only need one door to get to the point" tactical map designs?
You know an awards show is a joke when one of the nominations for GOTY is Pokémon GO.
And they could've picked anything else, like DOOM, Titanfall 2, or even XCOM 2, but they decided to pick that out of all fucking things.
Every single map is dustbowl.

It did achieve something that no other game has achieved previously. Getting people outside and exercising.
It did achieve something that no other game has achieved previously. Getting people outside and exercising.
But is it actually a better game than any of the ones I just listed?
But is it actually a better game than any of the ones I just listed?
No, not gameplay-wise but an achievement in a different category can also have an impact on that decision.
But is it actually a better game than any of the ones I just listed?
Depends, i'd say gameplay wise no, but the impact it had on the world and gaming community is far greater than the ones you listed.
Maps are absolutely fine at higher-level competitive play where people realise this isn't an arena shooter and that you've actually gotta work together and synergise your abilities to win, chokepoints exist so your team HAS to coordinate to break through or hold them.
Content updates on the other hand are slow as shit and the seasonal skins are a fucking prank
Isn't the main game balanced around the ultimates which are crutches for bad players to do somewhat well?

Not so sure about that. There are barely possibilities to flank or surprise the enemy teams because the maps give so little opportunities, especially with the first points for attackers. Not everybody plays on higher-level competitive plays. It's just frustrating that almost every single map has just one door to get through and your team just keeps dying and dying at the door because there is no room for surprise attacks and such. You are just supposed to "break through" but even then your whole team is pretty much one group at one point and just easy targets on maps like Hanamura, Anubis, etc. This isn't really fun. I never felt any kind of chokepoints happening TF2, other than sentry spawning in 2Fort room. But TF2's maps at least were big and gave a lot of room for possibilities. Overwatch doesn't really offer this.

lol So now apparently cultural impact is more important than the quality of the game itself.
Tell me how that should largely impact an award of this calibur.
That's like saying Suicide Squad and Fifty Shades of Grey are worthy of being nominated for "best film" awards.

It's not like games like this get nominated left and right. No other game has done/achieved this before and this is already something outstanding. I don't necessarily agree with its nomination but I kinda get why they did it.
Isn't the main game balanced around the ultimates which are crutches for bad players to do somewhat well?
It is.
Some ultimates are hilariously game breaking while other are absolutely terrible, but they overall cheapen the entire game.
Now that the minority opinion is out of the way...
Overwatch is deserving of Game of the Year nominations and wins. The overall quality and polish is outstanding, and it is the most fun multiplayer shooter I've played since TF2 and maybe even ever.

Just because you can understand why they nominated it doesn't mean it isn't retarded.
Should have gotten an award for most incredibly shit matchmaking
Every time I wanted to play the trash matchmaking killed any desire to keep playing, completely drove me away from the game

They keep a lot of data. And I imagine they find that attackers and defenders win roughly equally. Even if they were balanced Single passages aren't too fun.

I think given the nature of the game it's difficult to have perfect matchmaking. You may be a killer McCree and it's boosting your MMR and then one game decide to go Ana or another char the team needs and such at it, and from your team's perspective... The Matchmaker failed.
But I supposed you'll be happy to know PTR has a serverbrowser which will come to the main game soon.
Shame that PTR is USA exclusive. As in, elsewhere the connection quality is no go.
