• ~$1800AUD PC Gaming/Video Editing Build

Hey all, So I've made an attempt at compiling a build which I think would be sufficient for the purposes I intend, and please keep in mind that this is my first build as well. I've been doing a bit of research on different parts and what I would require, and the build listed below is the result of that. Being my first build, I would appreciate any advice people would have on maybe altering it accordingly to possibly save a bit of cash. Please note that I need EVERYTHING from OS to case as my last PC was a laptop (nothing could be salvaged for obvious reasons). These are inclusive of the price. My uses are, of course, just general everyday use such as net, school work etc etc, then I would like to use it for creative media, so this would include video editing, photoshop art and things of the like. Also, I play quite a few Valve games, and being able to play some of the new releases would be great. I'm looking to make this within the next 2 weeks as my previous PC has pretty much fucked itself, so I'm not really prepared to wait much longer for new things to come out. If you do have any suggestions/alterations/wish to do a price check, I would appreciate if you used 'http://www.computeralliance.com.au' as it is my local computer store, and by far one of the cheapest in my city. Would you be able to suggest an alternative option, if necessary? I've heard that you can 'unlock' a 6950 to achieve similar specs of the 6970, but then again I was told that not all of the 6950 cards are able to do this, so I wouldn't be prepared to take that risk. Also, the CPU, I was recommended to upgrade to the i7 2600k as (correct me if I'm wrong) it supports hyper-threading and would prove relatively useful for video encoding compared to an i5 2500k. I'm not exactly concerned about the final price, as long as it meets that ROUGHLY $1800 budget. The current build listed above is about $1840 at the time of posting, so I'm prepared to go atleast another 50 bucks if there is a need to do so. What do you guys think?
No need for 8GB ram and legal windows. (User was banned for this post ("Suggesting Warez" - Asaratha))
No need for 8GB ram and legal windows.
Warez much? and 8gb ram is not overkill these days.
Build looks good, I don't think I'd change a thing, except you could get a mechanical keyboard for the price of the G15. I've found nVidia cards to be better supported all round, so for a rig that isn't specifically oriented at gaming I'd say the GTX 560 is a good choice.
No need for 8GB ram and legal windows.
Unsnippable. I just noticed what a jerkass I am, I'm gonna rate myself box- :argh: Garry!
I doubt you'll need Windows 7 Pro, Home Premium should be enough if you don't use Window XP virtual machine or connect/backup to company network. But othewise looks very good build.

(User was banned for this post ("Suggesting Warez" - Asaratha))
I'm late to the party, but I'd like to point out that I think 8gb is so affordable now that most new PC's I think should have around 8GB. This is a video editing build, and 8gb isn't much. I'd go for 12-16. Ram goes so fast rendering. The speed of the ram should be up for debate though. Now, Ripjaws at 2000mhz is probably overkill for most gaming and editing, perhaps go for 1600mhz and more ram. That's my opinion as an editor/builder. More is always always better when dealing with video and editing. Someone else would explain where speed factors in more though hopefully. Edit: Hmm, maybe ram has gone up in price since I last shopped around. oops

Whilst it does seem questionable to go with 8 or 12-16 RAM, I think upping it to around that would just be out of my current budget. The video editing I do isn't all that intensive to where it would require possibly that much. As for rendering speeds - anything that is bareable should be fine for my intentions I suppose, I'm not eagerly picky on how long it takes a video with standard length, just probably as long as it takes no more than a few hours to render. But cheers for the opinion, hopefully should be purchasing parts within the next week or so.
Looks very solid. Although I don't really think you need a pre-overclocked GTX 560. Save 30 AUD. IIRC, different brands of the cards make very little difference unless its a non-reference design, and I'm pretty sure those are all non-reference 2-fan designs.
