• AC Power Adapter Clicking and Blinking and generally not working

Hey pchs, Recently I purchased a replacement power adapter for a laptop of mine, since the one that came with the laptop stopped functioning and was no longer under warranty. That was about a month ago, and now it's stopped working. Let me describe the symptoms: 1. It DOES NOT succeed in charging my laptop at all. 2. The LED signifying that it's plugged in flashes on and off very dimly. 3. If I hold the adapter up to my ear, I hear a soft ticking sound, like a pocketwatch, striking rapidly, in sync with the blinking of the LED. I have sent off for another one in the mail, but since we're looking at a holiday and a Sunday coming up in a few days, I don't expect it to be here for almost a week. So, I have two questions: 1. What is the cause of this problem? 2. While the new one comes in the mail, is there any way I can mitigate this? Like, a temporary "band-aid" type thing? My laptop is at 0% battery because I put this off too long.
Hit it, you might get lucky.
If I were you, I would remove that from the laptop immediately and not plug it back in. It sounds like something is shorting out. If that is the case, and you leave it plugged in, it's entirely possible that it could fry the system, or overvolt the battery and cause bad things to happen.
Ffffuuuck.
