The company is announcing an "AT&T Unlimited Plan" that applies to homes with both AT&T's wireless phone service and either DirecTV or U-Verse TV.The plan encourages television consumption on cell phones and tablets. Part of the pitch is that subscribers can take their TV with them and not have to worry about data overages or Wi-Fi availability.

He said the unlimited data promotion targets the 15 million households that have DirecTV but not AT&T wireless, and the 21 million households that have AT&T wireless but no TV subscription.
Pretty cool, as I'm about to switch to AT&T and have DirecTV.
"unlimited" data
well its better than comcast
I liked DirecTV back in the day when we had it
until someone downloads a terrabyte in a month and it's "excessive"

To be fair 1tb on a phone in a month IS a bit excessive. I've struggled to break 200gb.
Nice! It's a shame tho because my u-verse is under someone else's name than my at&t account
ill reserve my judgment till I read the fine text
After 22GB of data usage on a line in a bill cycle, for the remainder of the bill cycle AT&T may slow data speeds on that line during periods of network congestion. - See more at: http://about.att.com/story/unlimited_plan_for_wireless_and_directv_subscribers.html#sthash.zpqw8bdW.dpuf
amazing

Same shit tmobile does. Funny though, tmobile's is 21gb so they clearly went 1gb above just to say they have a higher threshold.
Well, like, what about people who already have DirecTV but live in a rural area with no cable?
Like, you know, me?

That's the situation I'm in. So you have DirecTV, you can get AT&T cell service with unlimited data.
Where I live they installed free directv for all houses since it's a small street, I wonder if I could still get the unlimited data with them, I doubt it though tbh.
Funny thing is, I'm part of an extremely old family plan with ATT that has true unlimited data with no cap or slowdown. They disabled tethering until we change it, but we never will.

There are plenty of ways around that tethering anyways. But Verizon just jacked the price on my unlimited, and I only have 700 minutes split between two people, so this is really attractive.
I'm already preparing my 'Fuck off I have Verizon and don't care about your bullshit' statement. I already have these cuntwaffles providing my DSL, and they bought out my TV, we're not getting their fucking wireless.

There are ways to get names changed on uverse accounts, but needs a new account to be made

I wish companies would be sued for false advertising for saying this. Unlimited's definition isn't in the least murky, either there are absolutely no limits even if you download the entire internet or it isn't unlimited.

Yeah a case like that wouldn't get anywhere because they are providing unlimited data. All they're changing is bandwidth, which a number was never advertised on that in the first place.
They will just change it back after a month

Same here, but with T-mobile. I got around the tethering disabling for roughly a year, used it as my only source of internet on my PC. 100-150GB a month at high speed internet speeds, was glorious.

That kind of abuse is kinda why a lot of telcos are getting rid of truly unlimited data...
I work for Directv/ AT&T. For one the merge is terrible. Our work phone we use to activate receivers get absolutely no signal. Hate it with a passion.
On topic we tell customers to avoid our internet and stay with Comcast/charter. The directv service itself is great though. But uverse internet is garbage and barely works. And the "unlimited" data is a sells pitch. I get sent to service calls due to slow internet and have to explain to them that it's not unlimited.. Then get yelled at for 30 mins

The plan I share with my family used to be that, but my mom doesn't know anything about how data works and got talked into """upgrading""" it by an AT&T person. Now we have seven people all sharing one pool of 40GB.

I had unlimited data back in 2014 in favor for capped. I would always get throttled at 3GB in usage. After 4 it would crawl.
I love seeing companies charge a "cap" on data.
Like its a fucking finite resource. Fuck outta here.

It is a finite resource, in that there is a limited amount of bandwidth available at any given time. That said, the only reason they need caps is because they can't be bothered to actually upgrade their infrastructure to support the populations they are servicing.
From a purely greed perceptive it makes perfect sense considering the lack of competition in so many areas.
I But uverse internet is garbage and barely works.
Can confirm. I've been using ATT internet since it was Bellsouth dialup. It's either that or satellite where I live and that means I have no choice but to use ATT DSL. That got upgraded to uVerse last may, still shit-tastic, still the only option I have.
I fucking hate ATT And everything they stand for yet I have no choice but to pay them out the arse for shit-tier garbagenet because it's either that or i effectively have no internet at all.

pfft you can get around the tethering restriction with a program on your pc and a few drivers. i had to do it when i moved and had no proper internet for awhile, so i had to rely on my phone's 4G connection

Jesus man, my "unlimited" cap here in Canada with Sasktel is 10gb before I get throttled, and I pay $80 a month.
