A neo-Nazi party from the city of Dortmund has reportedly demanded the city's mayor give them a list of all city's Jews, in an event eerily reminiscent of darker days in Germany's past. Luckily, the mayor refused and slammed the request, passing it on to legal authorities who are working to outlaw the party.
According to different reports, the party, known as Die Rechte (The Right), wrote a letter to Dortmund Mayor Ullrich Sierau through its lone city council member, Dennis Giemsch, requesting to know many Jews live in and around the city, as well as their addresses.

The reason for the request, the letter explained, was 'professional': To be able to give proper treatment to the city's residents, the party said it needed to know the relative size of each faith in the local population to be able to "do its job."
Giemsch reportedly asked the information be given at a city council meeting Wednesday night. Needless to say, his demand was unequivocally refused. They Daily Mail reports the letter was then passed onto the North Rhine-Westphalia interior ministry as part of the ongoing effort to ban the party.
Mayor Sierau, from Germany's center-left Social Democratic Party, vehemently condemned the letter, and in a press release, slammed the as request "inhuman," saying the city was happy with everyone who chooses to call it their home, and in a Tweet the city said city's Jewish community was an integral part of society.
The city's Jewish council slammed the request, saying it's "true intentions" were obvious, and said it was "obnoxious and perfidious anti-Semitism."
I don't really agree with the article
Have my translation of the letter:
Request for the council session of the city of Dortmund, at 13.11.2014
Dear mayor,
i request the following inquiry of the party DIE RECHTE (the right) to be added to the agenda of the Dortmund city council session held at 13.11.2014
Jewish citizens in Dortmund
Request:
1.) How many people of jewish faith are at the current time (October 2014) known to be in Dortmund? Does the city of Dortmund have official numbers, are believers registerd?
2.) Is it possible, the number of people with jewish faith to be subdivided after district?
Reason:
To find an adequate contact between all religions, it is necessary, to find about their meaning in our city. For our political work the number of people of jewish faith living in Dortmund is relevant to us.
At least in this letter they are not requesting a list of all jews but rather a statistic of how many jews live in each district. In my opinion it is despicable to have this people requesting such stuff but if there aren't any other letters, the only thing they did is wanting to know how many jews live in and around the city but not who is a jew.
To me this looks more like a provocation and a PR stunt so this shithead have some publicity but not something that they really plan on producing results.
nah, deny them their request for that list.
This reminds me of one of the stories my grandpa used to tell me.
He was a part of the criminal underworld in Mumbai and had a hardware store during the height of the anti-south movement in Mumbai. Some goons come to his shop and ask for a list of all the South Indian employees in his shop, saying it was for a "census". They said they'd be back in 24 hours for the list and if he refused, they'd burn down his shop.
Granddad knew what it was about and spoke to a few of his associates and the next day when they came, one of his associates had nailed a sheaf of papers to his door. The papers had the names and addresses of the families of each of the known goons (including the ones that dropped by my grandfathers shop), with a simple message scrawled in Marathi at the bottom that said "You come for us, we come for you".
They didn't touch his shop.
Sometimes, the only way to deal with people like this is to remind them that there are bigger things than them that go bump in the night.

That's bad ass.
That's bad ass.
It is, but my grandfather had plenty of blood on his hands before he died - being a member of a smuggling ring during the sixties and seventies in Mumbai came with troubles of their own. He was an angry, frightening and a mysterious man and stayed that way until he died - a man made of difficult circumstances.
Communities need to learn that when dealing with groups that only understand violence, sometimes a threat of even bigger violence usually quells any doubt in their mind, especially if the mechanism set up to defend you declines to carry out their duties (which is not true in this case, but during my grandfather's time, was).
I don't see any problem with this. They are not requesting addresses but rather statistics by religion. Not providin such information because they are Jewish is providing the Jews special treatment. It should be treated no differently than if ethnicity or another religion was requested.

But then one would question asking for the Jewish residents specifically. By asking explicitly for them it means they are being given the special treatment that you mention (albeit in a rather dark light). A more intelligent move for them would've been to ask for other minorities, Jewish ones being among them to disguise their intentions. But these are Neo-Nazis - it would be a miracle if they could smash their two IQ points together and start a fire with it.

Every post I've seen from you these past few days had been totally disagreeable, this is no different.
What could they realistically do with just numbers?
Propaganda and hate speech probably, but that's really nothing new

Except it's kind of obvious that this is a problem and by the sound of it they have malicious intent.

They're fucking Neo-Nazis requesting information on how many Jews live in the city. How the fuck is keeping the Jewish people safe from probably being fucking murdered in their homes "special treatment"?

Yeah, except usually when you do demographics and surveys of how religions line up in an area, you don't specifically ask for one group at a time, let alone Jews first.
