do they pass out from heat exhaustion?

I write software for Audible right now and we went to one of the fulfillment centers on a tour. Tech is pretty cool, but what I found most impressive is how they really seem to bleed every single dollar dry. Very little waste and efficient design everywhere.
At 37 seconds in: "They have motion sensors to detect objects in their way" As a robot carrying a shelf hits another robot's shelf. You can hear them collide.
Whoa, I was just AT the Fulfillment center in Moreno Valley, helping one of the employees back into his Chevy Malibu after he locked himself out! There are only FIFTY of those places? I guess that explains why the building is so goddamn enormous, and why its parking lot is such a bureaucratic nightmare. I wonder if it's one of the ten with these little guys?
The bit about not replacing workers is bullshit tho, its only a matter of time.
That's bloody awesome.
The bit about not replacing workers is bullshit tho, its only a matter of time.
Yeah, its a corporate bs-speak response to a media bs-speak question, though. If they really gave a shit about "job count" they would go back to using a hoe for farming and paying the premium associated with that.
Used to work at an amazon warehouse. Knew these fuckers would take my job.
Cool technology but I can't respect Amazon after discovering how they treat their warehouse workers. I can only hope that will change with these machines. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25034598

Being "shattered" after averaging 1 mph for 10 hours on a flat, smooth ground like a warehouse floor suggests the guy in the article is just out of shape.

The local Nissan factory down in Smyrna, TN has a similiar setup delivering racks of car parts to some of the human workers on the lines for more of the finer installs.
