Syrian state TV says Israeli rockets have hit a military research centre on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.
Huge explosions have been heard in the Mount Qassioun area of the city. The research centre was the target of an earlier Israeli strike in January.
On Saturday, Israeli officials speaking on condition of anonymity said Israeli aircraft had attacked a shipment of missiles in Syria.
The missiles were believed to be destined for Lebanon's Hezbollah.
Heavy explosions shook Damascus on Saturday night. Amateur video footage posted online showed a huge ball of fire rising into the night sky above the city.
What exactly does a military research center research?
What exactly does a military research center research?

What exactly does a military research center research?
It probably researches subjects related to the development of weapons.

If it was Israel, it looks like they used some of the bunker-busters the US sold them.
Holy shit. Yeah, definitely Israeli.
You can tell by the Jewish flames rising
Imagine waking up and hearing that!
If it was really Israel this gonna turn bad.
Well, looks like the US may be outta' the way now.
Fucking hell, Israel isn't messing around.
So shit might hit the fan?
Holy shit. You can see lightning in the mushroom cloud.

According to the article, there was a strike already made in January. This is April and nothing has happened about that one.
Plus Israel has publicly stated they will destroy anything heading to Hezbullah so it's not as if they weren't warned.
If it was really Israel this gonna turn bad.
Surprisingly it won't. The US will just take a passive "uh okay" approach and say nothing else and Syria will just say fuck you

Holy fucking shit, I missed this post. So if we go along with the theory that its a "military research" centre and it was a bunker buster what the fuck was being stored in it.
unless a lucky rocket hit nailed an ammo dump there was no way rebels could get their hands on something that large.
I wonder if this is going to provoke a response.

The one in January was a convoy carrying weapons, this is different. Someone just bombed part of another countires capital city. This will change things, even slightly.

Which is really fucked up since so many innocent lives are on the line, but hey, that's international politics for ya

I don't really think Syria has the resources at the moment to invade Israel.

Assad is struggling to take on rebels throughout his country.
What's he going to do with Israel?

As if they've had luck doing that beforehand anyway :v:
Did this kill civilians? Its sad while there already has been a deadly a civil war for years outside entities are coming in to only make things worse.

Israel is going to be bombarded with angry letters from Assad

He seems like the sort of person who you wouldn't want to open an angry letter from...

Given that the target was a military research center, I'm guessing few, if any, civilians were harmed.

Launch a rocket in return?

Probably not, the entire Mount is a Syrian army stronghold. The army has been entrenched there since mid-2012.
It's one of the critical strongpoints in the defense of Damascus. That entire area is a warzone.
Also the mount is only ~40 minutes away from the International Airport which Israel bombed a day ago, so its entirely possible they came back and bombed another target.
