In real, modern combat, in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, some soldiers have cameras attached to their helmets. The videos make it to YouTube (and on Kotaku, too), giving the rest of the world a first-person view of real combat. This week, The New York Times presents a simultaneously stunning and mundane video of an ambush in Afghanistan, as seen through the helmet cam of one U.S. soldier. Such videos, the Times notes, make "personal brushes with combat look like first-person-shooter video games, though rawer and more chaotic and replete with real-life soundtracks of explosions, zinging bullets and muttered invectives." The Times video shows a glimpse of just one harrowing day, December 8, 2010, a tougher day than I've ever had at my job. I can't embed the video here, but I urge you to watch it over at the NYT site. This is what we play, but real. Oh you so silly! Thats just a leak for MW3, you know? The most realistic game around?
Interesting watch, not more I can say.
Interesting.

Looks like Arma more than COD. :smug:
Looks like war of this era
I understand they probably don't know where the shots are coming from, and suppressing fire is really what they're trying to put down, but it seriously doesn't look like he has any idea what he's trying to aim at.
God that was fucking intense. My heart always starts pounding like crazy watching these helmet cam footages. I could never do what these soldiers do, and for that I have an incredible level of respect for soldiers.
Interesting... ironic how the modern ideal of war in a house hold enviroment is somewhat similar to say... bfbc in terms of action, where as this shows how a most likely VERY intense situation goes down. The difference is huge...
I think they mean the first person camera angle.

I think I spelt that wrong... damnit.

Haha, chewing tobacco! Just like Generation Kill. Enjoying it, this is a great watch
"Call of Duty Camera Angle" :what:
Man that guy loves popping off 40mm grenades [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] "Creed, duck!" Fires a grenade over his head. Awesome [editline]27th May 2011[/editline] "Where were you, where were you you mother fuckers!" "Daargh" "Yeah, daargh." -Brofists- That's awesome
They aren't fighting a war correctly. They are meant to line up in rows and shoot at each other before charging in with bayonets and cavalry that's how you are meant to win a war.
Call of Duty invented the first person camera angle.
Those gunshots are quiet.
This is a reupload. The original version is on a dedicated website and it specifically says "First person" not anything about Call of Duty.
This is a reupload. The original version is on a dedicated website and it specifically says "First person" not anything about Call of Duty.
This is from Kotaku, what'd you expect?
Yeah I just saw. Didn't mean the OP had to copy paste it, or the reupload for that matter.
Looks less brown than MW. And there's a lot less going on, which is something i'd like to see in a videogame. Like, one-hit-killing guns, no health recovery, and the battles are 8-vs-8 with a lot of cover.
Looks less brown than MW.
Hah. Another cod joke. Funny.
Those gunshots are quiet.
The louder they are, the easier it is to track their origin I suppose.

Gun fires aren't so loud because it's in an open space...
Wow this guy sucks, stop noob tubeing.
The video is more like ARMA, of course the fact that it's real, or should i say ARMA is like this video. If it was Battlefield there'd be jets and helicopters flying upsidedown and kamakazing, that and both sides would be prone throwing grenades like no tomorrow. I should play more ARMA, i do like it, but i hope people that are stationed in the middle east are ok.
