• EgyptAir MS804 crash: Recorder shows pilots 'battled fire'
Pilots of the EgyptAir jet that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea in May battled to extinguish a fire, the cockpit voice recorder reportedly shows. The data, revealed by sources close to the investigation but not yet made public, backs up evidence from the flight recorder of smoke in the cabin. Recovered wreckage also showed signs of high temperature damage and soot on the jet's front section.
Source
Yet how many people immediately assumed it was terrorism? The few details we did have before this read like Swissair 111 all over again.
Both of the so-called "black box" recorders reinforce the automated electronic messages sent out by the plane that had shown smoke detectors going off in a toilet and in the avionics area below the cockpit, minutes before the plane disappeared.
Wouldnt rule anything out yet, but an electrical fire is plausible.
Jesus that must've been terrifying.
Jesus that must've been terrifying.
I don't fear flying, but crashing in a plane must be the scariest shit. I mean there are other bad ways to go, but the lack of control really makes the situation even worse.

I know it's the safest mode of transport per miles traveled, how avionics have gotten better ever since the first airplane, etcetera etcetera but the idea of like.. a minute of free-fall before a sudden death is what terrifies me the most. Not the crash, but rather the falling before the crash. It's an irrational and dumb fear but I can't shake it.

Even jumping out with a parachute that works might still kill you days, weeks, months later. If no one looks for you, you could even end up getting trapped in some shitty forest for years. You could crash and survive, and you'd still be fucked. Who the fuck knows where you'll end up, totally alone. Depending on where you were going you might land near a really friendly country and make it back home. Could even land in the middle of an African Desert. At least with car crashes you don't have the possibility of ending up fuck knows where

I doubt there's many people on commercial flights who crashed, survived and then died due to being stranded.
