Why do people even buy these games? Excuse my ignorance but they look like they have so little in variety of content that you would become bored of the game after only a week.

If the video doesn't click with you then you probably aren't the target audience. Not really into the F1 type games personally like you said, too little in the way of variety, similar to NASCAR games.

You'd at least expect them to do other things decent, but the graphics look outdated and a past title had issues with the AI cheating to catch up to you rather than being decent AI. I honestly don't know what kind of content the game has. If it had other things such as Formula 3, Formula E etc it might be worth it.

But I'm considering buying this one since they added the career mode back in. No way in hell I'm buying it at full price though, 60 bucks for a racing game with one racing class is pushing it. But yeah, I see your point, it's exactly the same with games like FIFA. I don't know why people buy those every year when all that has changed is the player roster.
Jesus christ, it looks like an indie racing game from 2004, even weirder that it comes from the people that make the prettiest racing games available (This is 5 years old)
Comparing a motion-blurred to death low-res screenshot compressed to jpg vs a heavily compressed video is not really something that gives good results.

There's a definite difference in eyecandy between the two.
