DMX was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday night (July 14) in Buffalo, N.Y., Billboard has confirmed. The 44-year-old rapper was arrested last month in New York City for failure to pay child support just as he was about to perform at Radio City Music Hall.
A spokesman for the New York City Sheriff's Department told WPIX-TV at the time of his arrest that DMX had $400,000 worth of unpaid child support, a warrant issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping and a robbery complaint out of Newark, New Jersey. No charges were filed in the Newark case.
This just after he got aquitted from his charge of attempted robbery at gun point. Whats with all these old rappers running out of money lately?
lets go! Buffalo!
Whats with all these old rappers running out of money lately?
Actually a lot of old rappers are going broke. When you start getting all of this money with absolutely no education in regards to maintaining finances that large you kind of end up spending all your money very quickly. People are quick to think that if they have millions that it will somehow last forever but that's not the case.
Think of most people who win the lottery, many of them end up going broke because they buy everything. Big houses, nice cars, you name it.
Now that doesn't mean that every old rapper is going broke. There's rappers who realized that their careers weren't going to last forever in terms of music and were smart enough to use their newly earned money wisely. Whether it be investments or even starting up or funding successful businesses they wanted to make sure they had a secure future. Evidently DMX had no fucking idea about what he was doing and had a lot of illegitimate children. Now he's being boned by child support.

Gta has taught me an important lesson
even 80 million dollars is a small amount of money if you are too stupid to save it up
if you just spend it on hookers and cars your going to be broke within a day'
or you could save it and just have money to buy anything you need for almost ever
Judge gonna give it to 'im
Only love for my hometown right about now.
DMX keeps it real.
Ask people in the projects when's the last time they saw The Dog

fastest way to be irrelevant in hip-hop post-2008: not know how to use the internet
it's amazing how quickly he went from one of the biggest names in hip-hop to a complete nobody who can't afford child support.
he's also so fucking coked out in this video
If you search up any recent videos of him he looks really fucked up. It's really sad.
This is him ~3 years ago

"Where's my child support?"
"X gonna give it to ya.. later.."

This also came out today. Perfect timing
An album was released under his name last year. The covert art looks like box art for a PS1 game.

I've heard that he believes the music industry or whatever is tracking him. Making him look bad in the media while ruining his career by arresting him over and over.
He have had a LOT of shit kicked on him the past ten years and sometimes it feels like he's right.
By looking at all the bad press he has gotten since he was a bigshot. Hell, like swiket said, he still makes music.
How can someone become THAT undetected after being world famous?
It's not like he's 50 cent? Dmx can make good shit and it feels like he became a ghost in a day.
A rapper? Misogynistic and homophobic?
Yeah but normally they don't put the lyrics
"Last I heard, y'all niggas was havin sex, with the same sex
I show no love, to homo thugs
Empty out, reloaded and throw more slugs
How you gonna explain fuckin a man?
Even if we squashed the beef, I ain't touchin ya hand"
in their songs. And this is in Where The Hood At of all things.

later in the song he threatens to ejaculate into a man's eye so its equal opportunity

Could you afford $400,000 for child support?
Could you afford $400,000 for child support?
Considering he was a fairly prominent rapper 10-15 years ago, suddenly being unable to afford $400,000 is quite a drop. I think he owns a few Escalades but has no cash on hand I guess.
Is this really a bad thing, or is prison time going to just give him a lot of good material to work with?
Could you afford $400,000 for child support?
If I managed to sell over 30 million albums and be one of the best-selling rappers of all time, yeah, probably.
I'm betting the only reasons he was unable to do this is because he saved none of his money, blew it all on coke over a couple years, and didn't want to liquefy his assets.

He's washed up and done for, sadly.
His last album, released in 2012, sold 17,000. His debut sold over 4,600,000. All of his albums were platinum (up to 5x platinum) until 2006, when he only managed to sell 125,000.
If he was smart with his money he could've lived a very very comfortable life. Blew it all on drugs and cars - if he's very lucky he'll be able to dig his way out and live comfortably off of the royalties from his old albums.
