Russia is to supply Libya with small-arms and other weapons to the value of $1.8bn (£1.1bn, 1.3bn euros), Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has announced. The contract is worth nearly a quarter of the Russian state arms exporter's entire sales last year, which were put at $7.4bn. Mr Putin said the deal had been signed on Friday during a visit by the Libyan defence minister. There was no immediate word from the Libyan side on the deal. Abu Bakr Yunis Jaber, Libya's defence minister, has been in Moscow for several days, meeting defence officials. Keeping busy Mr Putin gave no details of the arms covered by the contract. Russian media speculated earlier that it might include fighter planes. "Yesterday a contract worth 1.3bn euros was signed," Mr Putin announced at a meeting near Moscow with the director of the Russian small-arms manufacturer Izhmash, which makes the Kalashnikov assault rifle. "These are not just small-arms." Mr Putin gave no further details. However, according to a military diplomatic source quoted earlier by Russian news agencies, the deal included fighter aircraft, tanks and a sophisticated air defence system. Rosoboronexport, Russia's state-owned arms export monopoly, announced on Thursday that its 2009 sales had seen a 10% increase on the previous year. Customers included India, Algeria, China, Venezuela, Malaysia and Syria, with air force weaponry making up 50% of sales.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8489167.stm Wonderful, more firearms is exactly what the African continent needs. Still, good money for Russia.
Fruits were produced as a result of it?
As long as it's not nukes and ICBMs who gives a fuck. Let 'em blow each other away, doesn't harm the rest of the world.
Libya is far more stable then the rest of africa.
Fruits were produced as a result of it?
It came to a successful conclusion. [editline]06:34PM[/editline]
Libya is far more stable then the rest of africa.
That depends on what part "the rest" is in. But yeah, it's more stable than the majority of the continent.

And it's pretty disturbing to see Russia making friends with a country that hates the West
Fruits were produced as a result of it?
Why does this^ post have two dumb ratings? "Frutation" isn't a word
I think you mean fruition
It's great to see some empathy for the the people that might die. If it doesn't affect me or people I care about why should I care? lol boxfort

Look, you're talking about trying to stop fighting that's been occurring for what, rough guess 50 years? Maybe more? It's like the US trying to stop Palestine and Israel fighting. It will never change.
France and england used to be bitter, bitter enemies. And that was for centuries.
France and england used to be bitter, bitter enemies. And that was for centuries.
I'd totally guestimate around 700 years or so.
yeah pretty much from 1066 to 1906
Libya is far more stable then the rest of africa.
Libya has a higher HDI than Russia. Food for thought.
Libya has a higher HDI than Russia. Food for thought.
not really a surprise. that country is such a shithole now
Libya has a higher HDI than Russia. Food for thought.
Moscow has the world's highest concentration of super cars.

Business is business. Just keep the guns to police and military and well - they might continue being stable.
Libya has a higher HDI than Russia. Food for thought.
Part of that is skewed on account of Libya having a relatively low population concentrated in three areas, and massive oil reserves. Most developed nations sell lots of weapons anyways. US does its share of weapon sales, as does France, the UK, and Germany. And Libya can easily handle it anyways, and the West isn't concerned because Libya isn't at the atmosphere it was in the 1980s.
I think you mean fruition
Yeah, I do. Thanks.
France and england used to be bitter, bitter enemies. And that was for centuries.
And they still owe us one for invading us all those times.
The last time anyone invaded Britain successfully was in 1066, almost a millennium ago. That was by France.
Why would anyone be surprised by this? Russia will supply anything to anyone if they will pay well enough - they need the money.
The last time anyone invaded Britain successfully was in 1066, almost a millennium ago. That was by France.
I want a pointless internet argument. Actually, France was to the south, Britain was invaded by the Norman state, which was then taken over by The French state. Therefore Britain is still under Norman rule. As I said, pointless.
Honestly, who hasn't Russia sold arms to? Good too see they're keeping in the game.
Marty, meet me at the shopping mall carpark at 1:30
