In a rather shocking announcement SNK Playmore, the makers of the original Neo Geo systems, have decided to release what seems to be a Neo Geo Pocket 2! For those of you that don't know, the Neo Geo Pocket was a handheld that was released by SNK in 1998. Although the handheld wasn't that popular, a successor, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, was released in 1999. Sadly enough, Nintendo's Gameboy systems had already been welcomed into the hearts of many, and thus the Neo Geo Pocket Color never sold more than 2 million copies in its two-year lifespan. Now it looks like SNK might want to try their hands at the handheld market once more with this new Neo Geo device! The Neo Geo (might not be the final name), sports a design that highly resembles an iPhone, this could be to compete with the ever-growing cellphone gaming market that is currently threatening dedicated handheld gaming devices. Located on the top of the device are L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons, an AV out jack, and what looks to be the port where your charging cable connects to. On the button of the device you have your volume and brightness buttons, as well as an audio output jack for headphones. Sticking with the Neo Geo handheld design, this new portable brings back the familiar analogue stick that fans of the SNK handheld have come to know and love. Opposite the analogue stick is are your A, B, C, and D face buttons. Located between the analogue stick and face buttons is a rather nice 4.3-inch screen. Finally, on the right side of the device is an SD card slot (just incase the 2GB of internal storage aren’t enough for your needs), and the power switch. The Neo Geo comes pre-loaded with North American versions of 20 classic Neo Geo games: World Heroes Ultimete 11 Top Player’s Golf Sengoku Nam-1975 Mutation Nation Last Resort King of Monsters Frenzy Cyber Lip Fatal Fury Special Art of Fighting Super Sidekicks League Bowling Metal Slug Magical Lord Baseball Stars Professional Samurai Shodown King of Fighters ’94 Fatal Fury So far this is looking to be a great device, and if it bombs again, at least we’ll have a nice updated handheld that can should be able to run emulators on it’s 4.3-inch screen pretty well. SNK did not state the release date, pricing, maker, or ordering information for the Neo Geo. For more information about this device, visit FamiCom-Plaza’s report. JOY.
Um.....yay? And is it just me or are the ABCD buttons in a bit of a weird layout?
If this is a pure gaming device I'll get it. I'm tired of Sony and Nintendo tacking on extra shit we don't need.
So far this is looking to be a great device, and if it bombs again, at least we’ll have a nice updated handheld that can should be able to run emulators
I'd get one just for that purpose. It's great having streets of rage, umk3,pokemon red and a handful of street fighter games on my phone but it's a bitch using touch as the input.
Gonna get sued for the shape. Calling it now.
It's got the basic controls you need. It's got the essential I/O you need. It's beautiful. I second that though. It looks like an iPhone in one way at least.
a new handheld device is not breaking news
I remember the first time I saw the older Neo Geo handheld. Some kid was playing Metal Slug on it while I was in some doctors waiting room. I had always wanted one after seeing it, but never knew what it was. I'll definitely be getting this.
Hell, with those preloaded games, it's worth it.
The Neo Geo (might not be the final name), sports a design that highly resembles an iPhone
So how long until Apple sues?
Well that was unexpected. SNK of all people. Awesome.
I remember playing Metal Slug anthology on my PSP God the loading times were a bitch
I smell a lawsuitttt (because Apple)
Think it will have an adapter for MVS cartridges? Edited: There's a mod: Build it INTO an MVS cartridge.
fucking metal slug fuck yeah
I smell a lawsuitttt (because Apple)
A rounded rectangle shaped object, it's like they want to be sued by Apple. Can't wait for some Metal Slug
Note that it also has buttons and a joystick on it. I don't think they'll get sued by apple.
Note that it also has buttons and a joystick on it. I don't think they'll get sued by apple.
If they do, it'll probably fall through. Anyways, am I the only one who is reminded of Human Revolution and the people playing retro-retro games on their handhelds?
I think you guys hate apple too much
yes yes yes YES YES YES YES [editline]25th January 2012[/editline] i bet 4 days for Apple to sue
Even though I've already got a 3DS and you could say I'm kind of a Nintendo fanboy, I might look into this. Seems neat.
Um.....yay? And is it just me or are the ABCD buttons in a bit of a weird layout?
Looks like it's the same layout as a playstation just with the buttons labeled like on other systems.
You know what? I'm sick of our gaming getting smaller and smaller. Where are the huge arcade machines that can produce the best graphics in the entire world with that much space inside the machines?
You can't carry an arcade machine in your pocket. You can't palm an arcade machine when your boss walks by. It's about portability.
You know what? I'm sick of our gaming getting smaller and smaller. It kinda looks like the Dingoo.
"I've never seen a neogeo pocket, so apple will sue them" The thread. Def getting one of these though
Looks awesome. I'm a pure Nintendo fanboy, and I can't afford to have two handhelds going at the moment, but I fully support this. The more handhelds on the market, the better.
Hell yes. Metal Slug was the shit.
