I've got this problem where, when I start the computer up, it'll go to the "GATEWAY" start up screen. After about a good minute, it'll go to a black screen and say (Something along the lines. Can't boot the comp up right now) "Please insert correct media into drive and press a key or restart." I bought those restore CDs from gateway, and it does nothing. After Gateway telling me to contact local support. I went to some friends, and they told me "Its a faulty start-up with the OS." So as they're my friends, I believed them and bought myself a external hard-drive. (It's being ship) and I'm gonna put a OS on it, and start up as that the main HDD So, just to be on the safe side, what do you think is the problem? EDIT: It's OS is Vista.
Is the bios set to boot off of the HDD?
Yes it is.
Soo I'm assuming you're out of warranty?
Soo I'm assuming you're out of warranty?
Yes I am. I had it when this happened, talked with gateway. They told me to buy the cds, I did. 2 weeks later as my warranty runs out, the cds come.
Well if it is out of warranty, open it up and see if everything is plugged in completely. Also the disks will have a recovery mode on them so try that also.

check and see if you can hear it spin up. Also check the bios and see if it detects it.
