Whoops, turns out I should've had a better source than just "me". Sadly, I don't have any other source except for "my chat with a friend of his". If any mods are reading this, could you do me a solid and move this over to General Games Discussions? Thanks :3 Yesterday, a friend of a friend of mine added me. During our conversation, I noted how he failed to leave a comment on my profile saying why he's adding me, and how I've had to put that message on my profile because of the phishing bots. In a funny twist of fate, this fellow revealed that he's good friends with the guy who created the "Steam Stealer Extreme" program that is behind all of these god damn phishing bots. His name is Lapanthere. Here's his Steam profile. Now, he's not the first person to ever create a phishing bot. The first was actually a Russian hack forum, but their program wasn't widely used. Lapanthere's program became the first big phishing bot to gain widespread use, which why I am crediting him as the "creator". Don't believe me? Want proof? You got it. Here's the chat I had with his friend, Sikes (who doesn't know I've publicly outed Lapanthere, and let's keep it that way) [t]http://i.imgur.com/9h8ZPYh.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/erOE5dz.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/gyJDQuM.png[/t] Still want more proof? Here's a video on Dailymotion of Lapanthere showing people how to use Steam Stealer Extreme. Right at the very beginning he says his name is Lapanthere and that he's from "hack forum". Now, I've already gone and submitted a SteamRep report just for fun and I've also submitted a Steam Support ticket in which I've provided Valve all this information. I had also posted a thread in SPUF's General Discussion section yesterday....but it got deleted about an hour ago without warning. But yeah, that's the motherfucker who's responsible for unleashing this cancer on Steam and who's responsible for Valve making trading so god-awfully awkward now. Thank him appropriately. [editline]test[/editline] Oh, I forgot to mention, Lapanthere has also been previously banned from Twitch for view-botting. See this Twitter status he posted where he basically brags about it.
It's probably not just one guy.
this isn't news
How does he sleep at night knowing he ruined thousands of accounts because of the program he unleashed I'll never know.
this isn't news
It's news to a lot of people who want answers as to who is behind all these god damn phishing bots. Also, I was debating on whether to make this thread in here, or in General Games Discussions, and I figured SH would garner more views to this scumbag which would hopefully lead to tons of people reporting his Steam account.
How does he sleep at night knowing he ruined thousands of accounts because of the program he unleashed I'll never know.
He's making mad scrilla off of it, I'm sure he doesn't care.
May his weiner roast well done
I dunno his backpacks says otherwise, where are his cs go knifes?

Nothing's going to come of it and he's not actually done anything wrong. He created the bot but didn't actually use it. You wouldn't blame Einstein for the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
This is the most incredible thing ever. I never knew steam had bots [sp]I worked with a group of people in 2008 making chat bots, it's literally impossible to determine how many bots are on steam[/sp]
Why? Nothing's going to come of it and he's not actually done anything wrong. He created the bot but didn't actually use it. That Einstein analogy is shit because there is no good use for a phishing/viewbot, period.
I dunno his backpacks says otherwise, where are his cs go knifes?
He may have an alt, he may not. I don't know. Smart bet would be that he's not spending the money he's making from this on ingame items.
no, but you would blame the people on the manhatten project either way this really isn't news and should have a better source than "me"
Yeah I know. That's why I wasn't sure if I should post it here or in GGD. I guess I chose the wrong place?
That Einstein analogy is shit because there is no good use for a phishing/viewbot, period.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
But yeah, that's the motherfucker who's responsible for unleashing this cancer on Steam and who's responsible for Valve making trading so god-awfully awkward now. Thank him appropriately.
Do you want him to get doxxed or something ? It's a good move to report him to valve but I don't think you should put all that on a public forum. I know this is facepunch and not 4chan but still, I get chills when seeing a post like that since the Vipes thread.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
Getting rid of ISIS and dinosaurs (if scientists ever bring dinosaurs back to life and they run rampant, we're gonna need to nuke all the t-rexes)
Do you want him to get doxxed or something ? Who the fuck cares. Only comatose vegetables are stupid enough to click those links anyways.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
lets not go down this path
It's probably not just one guy.
It probably is. This kind of thing isn't exactly hard to make.
Getting rid of ISIS.
I suppose if you wanted to kill all innocents in the process.
It probably is. This kind of thing isn't exactly hard to make.
I originally thought it was just someone using Jessecar's SteamBOT to go around spamming links. It seems to be its own program.
Getting rid of ISIS and dinosaurs (if scientists ever bring dinosaurs back to life and they run rampant, we're gonna need to nuke all the t-rexes)
do you have any idea what a nuclear bomb does
It probably is. This kind of thing isn't exactly hard to make.
Yeah if I remember right the code is nothing special, you even have to actively click download and the run it, when it says it's an exe file.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
No, I would totally argue against the Hiroshima thing any day. Your entire analogy sucks, because you didn't defend yourself but made it worse by choosing an analogy based off of false information that defeats your own argument. Guns are a good invention. Guns are not inherently evil. Using a gun can be evil though, and the evil that occurs shouldn't be at the fault of the inventor. Hacking tools explicitly for stealing information can only be used for evil because it's unethical to take other people's information. There is no practical use for it. Phishing bots are unethical. Faking viewcounts to give the impression of popularity is unethical.
Well regardless, I realize now I've posted this in the wrong section. I'm guessing the mods could move it (because hey, garry moved threads into General Discussion with the shuffling around of the site), and if so, they could move it to General Games Discussion as it would be better suited there.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
Also:
Although he never worked directly on the atomic bomb, Einstein is often incorrectly associated with the advent of nuclear weapons. His famous equation E=mc2 explains the energy released in an atomic bomb but doesn't explain how to build one. He repeatedly reminded people, "I do not consider myself the father of the release of atomic energy. My part in it was quite indirect." Nevertheless, Einstein was frequently asked to explain his role—as he was when a Japanese magazine editor asked him, "Why did you cooperate in the production of atomic bombs, knowing full well their...destructive power?"
http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/past-exhibitions/einstein/peace-and-war/the-manhattan-project I worded what I said the way I did because Einstein wasn't working on the atomic bomb. Saying he's at fault for the atomic bomb because of his discoveries is insane and stupid.
Hacking tools explicitly for stealing information can only be used for evil because it's unethical to take other people's information. There is no practical use for it.
Hacking tools in general can be used to make people aware of a problem in the hopes they'll fix it; besides, there's no harm in writing one if you're neither going to use nor publish it. Neither applies to this Steam phisher though.
And there's a good use for a nuclear bomb?
It's good to have one but never have to use it, I guess.
Who the fuck cares. Only comatose vegetables are stupid enough to click those links anyways.
Said comatose vegetables are the ones forcing VALVe to think of hair brained schemes to sort out phishing in the first place. I present evidence A, 5 day item cooldown on store and market bought items. Evidence B, capchas. [editline]21st January 2015[/editline]
Hacking tools in general can be used to make people aware of a problem in the hopes they'll fix it; besides, there's no harm in writing one if you're neither going to use nor publish it. I can see the point in not releasing it but refusing to use it in the first place after spending countless hours making the thing? That's pretty stupid if you ask me. Even proof of concepts are used at some point.
