Comcast Bumping Usage Caps From 300 GB to 1 Terabyte
Comcast has announced it will be raising the usage cap on broadband service to one terabyte starting in June. According to a company blog post, Comcast says customers in Comcast "trial" cap markets, currently capped at 300 GB per month, will have that cap raised to one terabyte starting June 1. Customers who exceed that amount of usage will continue to face Comcast overage fees of $10 per each additional 50 gigabytes of data consumed.
It's still a cap, but the most I've ever used is 800GB/month. that's with FIVE people streaming and me downloading games/mods and junk.
It's not hard to use Terabyte, I'm on unlimited plan and all i play is TF2.
hopefully this motivates other ISPs to do the same. mediacom has a 250 gb cap with the same 10$ per 50 gigabytes fee

I guarantee that's not all your doing. Games barely use any bandwidth compared to more common stuff like downloads or video streaming.

Like I said, I watch youtube/twitch/netflix all day except for work, which by that time 3 other people are streaming something. Plus recently I've been downloading a lot of "linux distros". I'm still only at around 600 this month.
My 140 GB cap is crying
according to windows 10's data meter I used 380gb last month on just my desktop alone
sheesh and I don't even do any file server stuff or anything like that

i heavily suggest you do a quick check to make sure nothing else is using your internet, because no way should you be hitting 1tb just playing tf2, even if it was 24/7.
I stream a lot of Amazon/Hulu/Sling/Netflix, plus a bit of torrenting. This doesn't really bother since I've only gone over 1TB once in the past 2 years and Comcast has never enforced the cap here.

Hey Comcast users, how does it feel like to live 10 years in the past?
Hey Comcast users, how does it feel like to live 10 years in the past?
For most of us it's either 10 or 50.
I see they're starting to get a bit more afraid of Google and friends now.
I'm entirely convinced that Google's plans to expand Google Fiber is what convinced them to do this.
For most of us it's either 10 or 50.
Dude my country buycuts every single service that introduces bandwidth limits, so they've all been unlimited since dial-up got replaced.
My brain explodes partly every time I hear tales about people living with these crazy limits, when I'm so used to pushing ~10TB a month.
Best of wishes for your ISP's to wake up and get some more humane business strategies.

How is 1TB living in the past? Most people will never need that much data.
I can't really say competition has made Comcast want to compete since the other provider in the city is shitty adsl/vdsl u-verse with extremely limited fiber deployments.
Hey Comcast users, how does it feel like to live 10 years in the past?
Gee thanks. Not like I have a choice. Now they can focus on fixing these abysmal speeds.
Hopefully some healthy competition finally
wait, data caps in home internet?
wait, data caps in home internet?
As slimey and pointless as it sounds

This has been a thing in the US for a long time now. A consortium of companies are our ISPs and they essentially work together to keep us in the stone age for profit.

What market do you live in? They always oversubscribe by over 10-25Mbps and receive every bit of that here.
Google Fiber, please! Where is our hero to save us?!
They also increased their price for unlimited data to $50 from $35 in the process.
I agree that 1TB is probably enough even for most power users but it is hard at the limit if you have fast internet and multiple people.
Datacaps should not exist really, I personally use about 1TB a month without counting the traffic of two other people who also use quite a lot.

Essex in Mass.

It's an archaic business model that doesn't solve any issues it claims to, while also providing the company with a new revenue stream for overages. It should be fucking illegal barring egregious cases or something.
It's like trying to fix rush hour traffic congestion by telling people they can only drive their cars 500 miles in a month. That's great, but people want to drive at the same fucking hours anyways, so you're not solving a thing. Boo-hoo that Netflix got big and the ancient lines you're using can't keep up with the bandwidth. Use some of your kings' share of retained earnings to fix that shit, god damn.
I had to upgrade to ~~business~~ class to avoid Suddenlink arbitrary and overnight adding 250GB caps to internet here without warning everyone. A household of 4 that uses Netflix and browses constantly can go over that in a week or two.

It's only thankfully been Comcast so far, but they do account for 1/3 of the US internet providers
that's cool and all but
what about the throttling?
It's only thankfully been Comcast so far, but they do account for 1/3 of the US internet providers
It's not only comcast. Of course, cap enforcement may vary between markets.
