I really need help on deciding between the ATI Phenom ii 965 Black Edition and the Intel I5 750 Processor in-terms of performance. Please help.
Here is a few things you should know
-They are both about the same price
AMD Phenom ii 965- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103692&cm_re=amd_phenom_ii_x4_965-_-19-103-692-_-Product
Intel I5 750- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215&cm_re=i5_750-_-19-115-215-_-Product
-And they are the only 2 options i have for my rig upgrade.
I need to know what preforms better.
I would say i5.
Yeah
Thank you for your time.
AMD Phenom, not ATi.
Yeah, your right Second-gear my bad
They have very similar performance and price but the i5 has more overclocking potential

It's ok, you're forgiven.
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, i can't be perfect like you guys.
You're perfect to me.

Lol the i5 has not more overclocking potential stop pulling stuff out of your ass
Sure it's good but in terms of overclocking the Phenom will annihilate the i5 + i7.
Go with AMD, you wont be dissapointed.
also get the 955, the 965 is just one multiplier higher, the 955 is black edition so you can just do this small bump yourself and save some cash.

i5>965 For single card setups.
ATI doesn't make processors.
AMD and ATi are the same companies, or its more like AMD owns ATi.
either way, ATi makes graphics processors.
lol @ the illiterate rating me dumb because I offended their precious Intel
doesn't ati make gpu's?

I'd like to see your AMD Phenom anything overclock from 2.6 to 4.0GHz on stock cooling and still have it idle around 32c. It just won't happen. My i5 had no issues at all doing just that.

No. Phenom II BEs are made for overclocking. They have unlocked core multipliers before any of the idiots here retort with some stupid anecdotal evide--

Oops, too late.

It doesn't matter if they were made for overclocking. That is like saying this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103286
Will overclock higher than this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115225
Just because the phenom has an unlocked multiplier.
Core i-5 is gonna be a little bit faster, both will overclock good, but you could get an AMD 955, which has the same overclock potential as the 965 and is 40 bucks cheaper than the i5.

core clock isn't everything :smug:

How did you OC your i5 to 4.0 on a stock cooler?... my i5 is oc to 3.7 and it idles around 38 - 39.. and i have the hyper 212 and the CM Haf 922 case?
i5 is meant for processing and a amd phenom II is meant for gaming

This is realisticly speaking. Since yes the phenoms do not have the cold bug. But the i5 runs cooler in a normal application allowing for higher overclocks.
Wait isnt the Black Edition have an unlocked core multiplier? Making overclocking twice as easy?
Wait isnt the Black Edition have an unlocked core multiplier? Making overclocking twice as easy?
Exactly. Hence the Phenom is better

AWWWWW, the smell of bullshit in the morning.

Agree stock i5 cooling is garbage.
