Egypt's army has said they have killed 32 "criminal elements" in an operation against fighters in the Sinai Peninsula.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, military spokesperson Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Ali also announced that 38 people had been arrested during “Operation Sinai," which began on August 7, days after 16 soldiers were killed at a border post.
Ali said many of the captured in the operation were “non-Egyptians."
"The operation will continue until its goals have been achieved ... These are not just military goals but also developmental goals for the Sinai," Ali said.
The statements were likely to unnerve Israel, which had expressed "reservations" over Egypt's deployment of reinforcements in the peninsula, with which it shares a border.
But Ali insisted that "the deployment of the armed forces, on all the territory of Sinai, is not a violation of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel".
"Our presence [in Sinai] is in the frame of coordination," with the Israelis, Ali said.
Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak said last week he expected the Egyptian army to withdraw its reinforcements from the peninsula at the end of the operation.
Well, yeah, Egypt just had a bunch of crazies hijack APCs and bumrush Israeli border.

That's not even funny.
War isn't a high score game.
War isn't a high score game.
Actually, that's exactly what it is. Do the most damage (get the highest score), and congratulations you win.
Actually, that's exactly what it is. Do the most damage (get the highest score), and congratulations you win.
It's much more complicated than that.
If it was just about kills, America would win every time.
Wait ...

i dont think he's correlating damage with kills.

Germany did quite a bit of damage to Belgium and France structurally, and Russia in terms of manpower in both world wars. It's not exactly "Do the most damage", it's more "Get a large enough string of damage"
It's more like "fuck them up until they tap out"

Didn't the US use their K:D to judge how well they were doing in the vietnam war?
I think you're going a bit too far with these titles.
Of course they didn't win but still.
Didn't the US use their K:D to judge how well they were doing in the vietnam war?
The funny thing is, it's massively miss-quoted.
Because people who use that to show 'how well' they did in Vietnam, forget that they actual casualty difference between the North and Southern forces as not that dissimilar. Mostly because the majority of the combat was performed by the South Vietnamese.
I think only a couple hundred thousand causalities between them at the most favourable tally, by some sources the America and the South took more casualties, which if you consider how vastly outgunned and outnumbered the north was, is quite remarkable.
But it goes without saying, if an American or South Vietnamese becomes a casualty, he has a much greater chance of survival than his northern counterpart. Since they had medevac, logistics, trained staff and access to hospitals in the country and overseas. Where as the entire North existed on the same amount of medical supplies as a single US battalion.
So yeah, using lol KDR isn't very telling at all.

Actually we would have won, the Tet Offensive was the last desperate push by the Viet Cong, the media saw it as a sign that we were not winning and told the public that. If we would have stayed we would have been victorious, it was really a major victory for the US, but in the end for what was a major defeat for the Viet Cong actually turned out to be a major victory as it made public support for the war plummet which caused us to pull out.

How can you say that?
The US never managed an successful offensive in 11 years.

That is complete garbage. The Vietcong were winning but the generals weren't happy with just using guerilla tactics and wanted a proper offensive, that's what Tet was and it was a military disaster. The Tet offensive was not a last ditch effort, it wasn't proof that the guerilla tactics weren't working because they were. Their military campaign had stagnated and would continue to stagnate, the PR effect just forced their hand.

Then they decided that all-out war was not a good option. They did get victory but it meant the Vietcong were smarter and they never fought a proper battle again.

Well what I mean by offensive was strategical land grab into the north.
What an impressive display of death.

Not to mention it stripped what little moral was left in the US forces.
I've been reading Michael Herr's Dispatches, and the Tet offensive really, really shook a lot of guys up.

No. War is about achieving the strategic goals (usually political) with the minimum amount of resources used, with the minimum amount of losses, spending the least time possible.
Go read Sun Tzu's Art of War.
