Hope everyone is okay.
Before anyone gets majorly worried, the Didcot Power Stations are not nuclear, they are natural gas and coal stations.
Considering the explosion and how its taking part of the building, it sounds like a gas leak went off.
Birds-eye view that was on BBC News.

I wondered what the army of fire engines, ambulances and police cars driving past my college was today had everyone's attention.

I live about three miles from there, and I didn't hear anything - I'm concerned about the site's safety though since we had a pretty big fire back in 2014 :~:

Also I'm not sure but it might have been the decommissioned site, I'm not so sure
The station has been operating for a pretty long time though
Either a boiler gave out or there was a substantial gas leak.
1 Fatality reported so far, site was due for demolition this year but it was not thought to be any planned activity today.
Holy shit, that's a lot of damage. If the site is decommissioned, it's even more surprising that something's gone that horribly wrong.

It is the old power station that was decommissioned in 2013, due to be demolished this year but no demolition was planned for today.
Stream gives a better idea from those first photos when the accident happened. Couldn't be gas. They were not ready for the demolition yet either. It could simply be they they were stripping the structure in preparation and it gave out.

i dont get it
I've done some construction work on the site and getting up to the old square building featured in the photo is creepy as fuck, it's like being in Chernobyl.
The area is split into Didcot A and Didcot B and the explosion happened at the decommissioned part of the site, probably as a result of the ongoing demolition/recycling operations.
The actual working power plant is on a separate section of the site.
BBC news has described it as a "collapse", reports of an explosion are from members of the public.
